Replace 2002 micra with?...

Hi all,
My Nissan micra 02 plate is in it's last legs and if it gets through the Mot I don't think it'll last much longer
I absolutely love my micra but I will need to replace it with something.
I want to stick to a 1 litre small car, I don't do huge amounts of miles and want something that's cheap to run.
I won't buy new as there's no point with the mileage I do.
Any ideas for a small reliable town car under 4k (preferably a lot lower!)
Many thanks!

Another Micra? Horrible things, but you seem to like them, so why not?
Otherwise, if it were me, I'd buy a Suzuki Ignis. MIL had one I bought for her in 2011 for £895. She did about 30K miles in it until 2015, when I sold it for £350 after her brother gave her his Fiesta.
She never opened the bonnet, it got an oil change once a year and had an MOT each year. Brilliantly reliable little thing, dead easy to work on, tough as old boots.0 -
You can get some relatively new city cars for under 4k, old style i10 or Suzuki Alto. The odd fiat panda is showing up too in my area which is a small town. If you are in or near a city you'll have more choice.
I've never driven them but conventional wisdom is to avoid kas and Peugeot 106/7. I'd prlly steer clear of Chevrolet too.Pulling myself together for 2020! Trying to keep a clean and tidy give.0 -
Toyota Aygo or Toyota Yaris? Economical runabouts with Japanese reliability, otherwise stick with Nissan?0

My elderly mother has a 14 plate Aygo. I used it for a few weeks recently while she was unable to drive following an operation. I have to say I rather enjoyed using it. It is excellent as a local runabout and was also decent to drive on the 50 mile trip between our homes. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0

Keep fixing the Micra. It should be good for another 10 years yet.

This is the right answer, you currently have a car you like and know (some) of its history. 4k is unlikely to get you that.
Plus keeping your current car and maintaining it is always the cheapest option.0 -
Thanks all!
My micra is the last of the old style and the new style I won't touch.
My problem with the micra is the cv boots go every other year as well as a few other issues. I'd love to keep it running but I think there is also some rust. It's booked in for a mot on Friday.
There are around 3 micras for sale near me but they're all older than mine or far more mileage (I've got 67k on the clock) and I want to know what's about for if the worst happens with the mot.
I do love the micra but I don't want to chuck tonnes of money at a micra that's not worth that much.0 -
CVs shouldn't go that often, I would have thought structural rust would be more of a problem.0
-
I wish they didn't!
I've got a new garage this year as I decided not to travel further for one I use to use so who knows, maybe they were a bit dodgy
The only thing I can think is that they used split cv boots or sub quality parts.0 -
If the boots are going that often the quality is poor. Use better quality boots.
Just because a cars value is low doesnt mean its not worth repairing.
Buying a car for £100 and spending £200 on it may not make sense to some, but if it gives that car a new lease of life and its a part that should last many years then its worth doing.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
