How Can You Install A Smart Meter If You Can't Tell Me Where You Want To Install It?

Caller: HELLO, THIS IS KEVIN FROM SCOTTISH POWER. CAN YOU HEAR ME?

Me: Barely. Can you call me on my landline?

Caller: I'M SORRY BUT DATA PROTECTION MEANS I CAN ONLY CALL YOU ON THIS NUMBER.

Me: Ok. But you're going to have to keep shouting. Mobile reception is terrible here.

Caller: WE WANT TO BOOK YOU IN FOR A SMART METER INSTALLATION.

Me: That's very nice, which house are we talking about?

Caller: EH?

Me: We own two houses. Which one do you want to install the Smart Meter in?

Caller: DATA PROTECTION MEANS I CAN'T SHARE ANY ADDRESS INFORMATION.

Me: Mmmm. Well that makes life a bit difficult. I take it I need to be in to let you in?

Caller: YES.

Me: Well how can I be in if you can't tell me what house I need to be in at.

Caller: PERHAPS YOU COULD GIVE ME A POSTCODE?

Me: Hang on. You won't share any address information. But you're just some random person who's called me on my mobile. I don't know whether you are who you claim to be and you want me to tell you where I live?

Caller: WE NEED AN ADDRESS TO INSTALL THE SMART METER

Me: So now you're telling me you want to install a Smart Meter but you don't actually know where I live?

Caller: YES

Me: I think there's a short answer to that question. GOODBYE!

    I know - it is stupid.

    I made an appt. with daughter's electricity supplier for an engineer to come and check the meter.

    They did not turn up.

    When I called to find out why they refused to discuss it with me because I was not the account holder. Data protection etc etc.

    So I can make the appt. be the one to deal with said engineer if he had turned up ,wait at her house all afternoon but not be told why they failed to turn up.
