Moving mortgage - with a gap

Hello,
I recently agreed to buy a house and move my existing mortgage to the new property, thus not needing to pay the early repayment charge.
Alas, the sale fell through and we had to go back to square 1.
We've now agreed another sale on our home, but due to change in circumstance* will not be able to apply for a mortgage for another 2 months.
We'd like to use the same arrangement - moving our existing mortgage across - but there is likely to be a small gap between selling and buying.
Do you know if lenders (specifically First Direct, if that helps) have any capacity to facilitate this?
Thanks
*change in circumstance = recently moved job and still within probation period for the next 2 months
