I've just discovered my wife forgot to tax her car that was due on 1st Jan

We have moved and she hadn't changed address on V5 (I have now done this for her and also taxed her car from 1st March)

I haven't picked post up from old address in about 2 months and expect a reminder, fines, etc. will be there when I go in the morning.

What bad news should I expect :(

    First offence?

You'll probably get away with crucifixion.

Considering the letters I got from the dvla for a previous occupant you won't even be at the final reminder stage yet. Just keep an eye on the old mail and thibk about setting up a redirect to catch any other mail.

    Thanks,
I've sent her V5 in now so hopefully correspondence will come to new address now.

I have a tenant in the old property and left him half a dozen stamped addressed A4 envelopes to put my post in and send to me once a month.

He hasn't done it for a couple of months now though so I will call round and pick it up instead, hardly anything goes there anymore, but forgetting to change the V5 means the tax reminder must have done :(

I think it is an £80 fine which I believe is reduced if paid within a certain amount of time.

However, if you are caught driving I believe it is up to £1000.

Quick update: It ended up costing £45.00

£40 penalty and £2.50 a month for Jan and Feb.

Not as bad as I was expecting :)
