    This is the kind of thinking that the big tyre/battery/exhaust chains try to push onto people.

    There are plenty of warning signs before brakes become that dangerous.

    Pads have a wear sensor, discs typically last twice as long as pads.

    It'd be half the price for your car since there's only one end with brakes, wouldn't it?

    So, the plural can be appropriate, though it rarely is on cars that are as they left the factory. Modern cars generally have non-adjustable, diagonally split systems, but the reservoir is shared with an internal divider to stop a leak on one circuit draining all the fluid in both. So single topup point, but possibility of different levels within the same reservoir.

    Some of my cars have two brake fluid reservoirs, one for the front and one for the back, as they also have two brake master cylinders and an adjustable bias bar to set the amount of braking effort that goes to each axle.
    That is pretty damn specialist, though...

    But going back to the OP. It's not bad for an hour's labour. It's a marketing deal subsidised by the income when they (inevitably) find problems, real or imagined.

    Of course, a check like that isn't even needed on a car that's properly maintained, because that maintenance will forewarn you of wear to the friction surfaces, will include a periodic change of fluid to prevent moisture-related problems, and will be backed-up by your own regular fluid level checks to spot any leaks... Won't it...?
  • I went to an independent garage with decent reviews. The only thing they could find was that the rear pads were worn to a level that they recommended them being replaced - which I have done.

    No, I decided to go to an an independent garage who did the inspection for free, but of course charged to replace the brake pads.
