Why one earth not unless it pongs or it's slimy?
It's a wonder we all survived before BBE dates, when you trusted your own judgement about perishable foods ...We're all doomed0 -

It's a wonder we all survived before BBE dates, when you trusted your own judgement about perishable foods ...
But if you use your judgement then there is nobody to blame, rant about or claim compo from. It's a sign of the culture that now pervades Life
I'm all for this push to get rid of use by dates and leaving it for the consumer to make their own judgement call0 -
would you eat it?
Would I eat it? No, but then I'm vegetarian.....
However, just see if it looks the right colour and texture and have a sniff to make sure it smells ok.
That's what people did in the olden days when they bought from the butcher and got it wrapped in paper with no dates whatsoever.:hello:0 -
Sometimes the bb dates do make you wonder...... I recently bought some Parma ham in M&S, reduced because of the bb date - it was labeled as' 14 months matured' but obviously 14 months and 1 day would have been beyond the pale! But the best ever was in Waitrose a while ago when a young employee was wheeling a trolley containing reduced items, one of which was a hyacinth in a nice ceramic pot. Conversation between me and Waitrose employee went something like,
Me: Oh, can I have that hyacinth please?
WE: Sorry, it's past the sell by date.
Me: I'm not going to eat it, it's a plant.
WE: But I can't let you have it, it's past the sell by date.
Me: I know, but IT'S A PLANT!!!!
WE: If I let you have it, I'll lose my job.
Me: *#*!*#* ( I didn't actually swear at him, it wasn't the poor lad's fault, but I felt like it!)

I live in a hosue with 3 teenagers. Should a pack of bacon *manage* to get one day past its best, It would Still get devoured - as the lads know what they like, cook bacon without mercy "got to get all that water out!" & then devour it with bread & brown sauce (if feeling "civilised") & pretty much straight out of the pan if just that hungry.
If it looks OK, smells OK & cooks OK, if you don't fancy it, odds on my lads will devour it for you.0
