Insurance for cat with existing condition

Options
Hi all,

My cat recently got ill and I didn't have insurance so I've been looking into getting some. I know most insurers won't cover pre-existing conditions but I found two that will cover them after being symptom free for two years. They are VetMediCover and LifeTimePetCover. Do any of you have any experience of using these or know of any other companies that cover pre-existing conditions?

As these companies won't cover his pre-existing conditions for two years should I just insure him with a "normal" company for the next two years and then switch him to one of these? Or is better to cover him with one of these from the start?

I also have other cats (no pre-existing conditions) who would you recommend for them?

My dog is with Lifetime Pet cover. We've claimed a couple of times, with no problem. They're very helpful whenever I've rung them. I'd definitely recommend based on my dealings with them so far

You could try pet plan. I switched my dog when she was 14 months - she had pre existing for an eye infection & gastroenteritis. She had to be symptom free for 1 year since last treatment for these then she was covered. I took the policy & she was fine with full cover on everything now.
I don't know if pet plan only do that for animals up to a certain age or anything but definitely give them a ring. They are a top insurer.

I'm a PetPlan fan too. They are not the cheapest but I have a vet in the family who says they pay out most and quickest if there's a claim. But it sounds like the person above can recommend LifetimeCover too. Did you ask your vet?

What condition does your cat have? Each assessment varies, and it depends on the condition, but for example if a pet had GI symptoms before the policy inception but was symptom free for a couple of years before it happened again I'd probably not assess it as pre-existing.
