Sausages that are not encased with a condom.

Hi, i used to really love my banger's & mash, toad in the hole & even a banner with my breakfast to only have these ruined by manufacturers using what i can only assume is a contraceptive to encase them in.
Sausages are so tuff to bite through, that almost feels like it has a plastic skin i am trying to get through.
Has anyone seen any sausages with natural castings as an banger encasement that i can buy from a supermarket. Just like they used to be.
Thanks

Most vegetarian sausages do not have a casing.
You'll probably have to go up-market or to an actual butcher's shop in order to get meat sausages with natural casings.
Having said that, I find your account of sausages that are too tough to bite unfamiliar.0 -
Sausages have always existed without the condom. The label says "skinless". I've had them for decades.

Personally I don't like skinless sausages, I find they stick to everything, although maybe that's me.
If you have a local butchers I would go there. Mine if you go early enough, you can see him making the sausages which I find fun.0 -

Thanks for getting back, but cant really class Richmond & Walls as a real sausage when they only contain 42% to 65% meat. But it did get me looking at around & Morrison's & there sausages contain 85 to 90% meat depending which ones. They also use natural castings.
I will pop into the shop for a test as they have got a good reputation for meat & fish quality..

Most of the high meat content sausages use natural casing don't they? Although personally I find the more expensive high meat content sausage have harder skins so you may not find natural casing any better/softer than the reformed casing.
For example these use natural casing http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/sausages/black-farmer-premium-pork-sausages-400g (read the ingredients)
and so do these http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/sausages/porky-whites-surrey-pork-sausage-454g
But the Sainsburys cheaper butchers choice use pork collagen casings http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/sausages/sainsburys-butchers-choice-pork-sausages--large-x8-454g
As I said, from memory I would find the reformed collagen casings softer than the natural ones.0 -
I prefer my sausages condom free too, instead of trying to bit them off have you tried to just roll them off with your tongue? Might be easier all round.
Honestly though I skin my raw sausages for most of the things I cook, they tend to come off very easily. Have your tried this?0 -
Most of the premium sausage will contain hog skin.
Cheaper sausage will be collagen casing.
The ingredient dec will probably say which casing they have used.0 -
Most of the premium sausage will contain hog skin.
.
The natural casing on premium sausages is actually a layer of the intestine not skin.

These are 82% pork and get good reviews - I fancy trying them myself
https://groceries.morrisons.com/webshop/product/Morrisons-The-Best-Pork--Honey-Chipolatas/251429011?from=shop&tags=%7C105651%7C104268%7C104551%7C162284&parentContainer=%7C104268%7C104551%7C162284_SHELFVIEW
I've now tried them and they are good - little fat, casing is not particularly thin but not a problem. However, not spiced enough for my taste.0
