Old Style Daily Tuesday 7th March

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone

I felt a bit rubbish last night with toothache and other aches and pains so I went to bed at 8.30 but I slept till 4am so I feel loads better today. I have made myself a bucket of tea and thought I would start us off.

My poor sister was admitted to hospital on Sunday with acute pancreatitis and is going for a procedure later on today so good wishes would be appreciated. She has been in pain with it for the last four years on and off so fingers crossed it gets resolved today.

It was my beautiful grand daughter's 9th birthday yesterday. She came to see us on the weekend as she would be at her dad's house for her actual birthday. Needless to say she was spoilt rotten but her poor brother was a tad jealous. Nevermind, it is his birthday in a couple of months time and it will be his turn to be spoilt.

I am going to be trying out my new gadget today to make dinner. I bought an instant pot and I am going to attempt garlic and lemon chicken and serve it with rice. I am a bit nervous as I remember my mum's pressure cooker and it was a frightening piece of kit, especially as she used to put it in the sink and ran cold water on it to help bring the pressure down, There was always clouds of steam whistling out of the valve. I am hoping that this electric version won't be so scary .

Hubby will be getting up in a bit to get ready for work but there won't be any sign of the girls for a while. I have to remind them to put out the recycling as it's taking over the corner of our kitchen. DD16 will be home early today so I will cook her some lunch as she doesn't really like lemony things. I have a small lasagne ready to put in the oven as I had a load of bolognese sauce left over from the other day so I quickly made up a lasagne to use it up.

It's DD16's birthday on Friday and all she has asked for is some second hand video games so I will put some money in a card for her to buy some new clothes. It is an expensive month for me as it is my eldest DD's birthday as well on the 19th and she is going to be 30. I don't feel old enough to be a mum to a 30 year old but I am sure my mum feels the same about me :rotfl:.

Well, that's enough waffle from me. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning All

Happy Birthday RR, have a great day.

dumpling - My mum used to do the same thing with the pressure cooker, terrifying!
Gers - Glad you enjoyed your bus trip, the weather was lovely yesterday afternoon.

Not much happening here, I was really tired when I got home yesterday so just lazed about and apart from doing a load of washing didn't do anything productive.

Have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x My mum had one of those pressure cookers too, I remember it being in the sink with the tap running cold water over it to reduce the pressure - mum bought her mum one (my nan) and she was petrified to use it! I'm sure the electric one's and modern hob one's are not so scary! I have a hob one and wouldn't be without it, it's probably the most used item of kitchen equipment - for boiling potatoes and then mashing them, as it's so big and deep, I don't have mash all over the kitchen, I also use it if I need a very large saucepan for anything.

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, damp and dreich, not raining at the moment but rain is forecast again.

DH up and now going to work, DS1 now getting ready too, DS1 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was pork steaks, mash, carrots, cauli/broc cheese and gravy. Tonight will be an easy fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Yesterday work was manic yet again, we're expecting more of the same today. Had a very unhappy customer that got verbally abusive aggressive and violent so I had to complete a incident report - they had already been seen yesterday by another colleague and not been too bad, but then came back and wasn't told what he wanted to hear, so became unhappy and had an outburst. We'll see what today brings.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for starting us off dumpling.

Today brings me a hair cut first thing this morning, a trip to the post office and then who knows what. I may try for a short walk if the rain holds off.

    Happy Tuesday!

    Morning all,

I had a visitor at 1am. Prodigal has been chucked out his flat. He's had it all of a month....Who would have guessed, the landlord would need paying. Idiot.

He's filthy, doesn't stink as yet but he's going in the bath this morning. His friends won't have him, his brother has had enough so it's my turn now.

Hubby, as usual, slept through it.

Hubby....don't talk to me about him. One word from me and he does exactly what he wants with his money....after all...he works for it. Some partnership this is!

My onwards and forwards left the building

    Have a great day all

    Ps. Happy birthday RR

  • Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING for starting us off. Hope your sister can soon be sorted out and today's procedure helps her feel better. I'm another who has always been a bit frightened of pressure cookers with all that hissing and steaming going on! Good luck with your instant pot.

Another rubbish night for me, in and out of bed and tossing and turning. This morning I finally got up feeling as though I had been kicked. Just had some painkillers so hope they help!

It's our turn for a bus ride today and the forecast is quite good. We'll get the bus into town and then onwards to Otley again I think. I like poking around in all the cs, especially the hospice shop where all clothes are 99p and the books, cd's and dvd's upstairs are often 50p! OK the ladies clothes are mostly tat but now and then I can spot the odd bargain. Mr TA will be dispatched for a coffee with his paper so I can rummage in peace!

Being a Tuesday it's Steak Day at 'Spoons so that's earmarked for a late lunch. For a change we might back track to the Ilkley one as not been in there for ages.

So a no cooking day for me, apart from our breakfast eggs and a bit of supper later on! Nice and easy.

Had a lovely meet up with my oldest friend yesterday and spent a pleasant couple of hours drinking nice coffee and swapping news and gossip. We've been friends for 64 years since meeting at junior school when we were 7 and have shared each others trials and tribulations ever since!

Lovely pics of your doggies JUDI. We do miss having dogs now after having one or two all through our married life. Take care all and (HUGS) to all the worried, sad and poorly who want one. Have a good day whatever you are up to xx HAPPY BIRTHDAY RR!!!!! x

Good morning, thank you for starting us off Dumpling.

I have had a run of bad nights but slept much better last night and feel a bit more like a human today, not like a crazed baboon.

Last night's dinner was cooked by OH and they had taco shells with a spiced chicken and green pepper dish, a yogurt dressing, salad and chips. I can't have peppers (give me horrible stomach ache) so mine was a small piece of baked chicken, some lettuce and half a dozen chips. Don't know what tonight's meal will be.

Work today and I need to catch up with a lot of things, nothing too dire.

It is dry and less cold than it was yesterday, have not looked at the weather report as it tends to tell me that it will rain exactly when I need to be outdoors.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning :hello:

    Happy Birthday redruby :bdaycake: :D

Aaargghhh the frustration! I was hoping to have everything done by now but my shoulder is slowing me down. I ironed the curtains (badly, with my left hand, lol) and put them on the poles but had to wait for someone to come home from work to lift them up onto the brackets. It took me all day to fill the holes in the skirting, there aren't many but I couldn't stay knelt on the floor for longer than a couple of minutes at a time and trying to crawl along to the next bit was impossible. Once I'd done a few, I had to get up and swing my arm about to loosen it then wait for the burning ache to stop. The sanding wasn't a problem, as you don't need to be fussy I could manage with my left hand, lol. Painting is going to be a problem though. I'll see how it goes.

We had two double sockets in the lounge, not nearly enough. I now have eight, so can plug sixteen things in at once :D I think I got a bit carried away, I don't really need that many, lol. But it's nice not to have to use double plugs and I don't miss the trailing, untidy extension leads.

Mr tru came home from work with some fab steak, ridiculously reduced in price from somewhere or other. I fancied mash and peas with it so spent ages rummaging through the freezers but couldn't find the peas. Mixed veg then? No, none of that either. All I had veg-wise was a few potatoes and a small cauli in the veg drawer. I went to my Morrisons order and edited it, today the shopping is coming with peas, mixed veg, mixed country veg, cauli and broccoli. Just hope I can fit it all in the freezer :D

I'm just going to potter about today, doing what I can in little bursts then resting my arm on a cushion between jobs. No set plan, because if I have one and can't manage it, I'll be furious with myself :D

    Happy Birthday RR :bdaycake::bdaycake::bdaycake:

I'd be having an Indian take away if it was my birthday ;)

    Mornin folks

Another disturbed night here but managed about 4 hours without waking so that's something.

Nothing of note occurring today other than a trip to the dentist for 2 fillings this afternoon :(..I'm dreading it already.

I'll call in the SM on the way home and see what inspires me food wise. I only need bread and butter but am sure I'll be tempted by something else too.

I shouldn't though as I have managed to pile on a stone since xmas and I'm struggling to get my clothes on. I really need to take stock and do something about it as I can't afford a new wardrobe of clothes :(...time will tell if I do or not :o

First cuppa drunk and another one is calling me so I'll bid you all a happy Tuesday :D
