tax on ppi

I have played tax on my ppi pay out, can I claim it back using form r40 from hmrc? I am a basic rate tax payer, has anyone else done this?

    If you're a basic rate tax payer, you should be paying tax on it.

    Do you mean your income is below £11,000 ish?

    Since the government changed the rules on tax on interest for savings and HMRC confirmed PPI refunds are included in the personal savings allowance you can claim back the tax if your interest is under £1000

    Do note this is not retrospective, only for claims since April
