Have you any suggestions for flat fee platforms?

Also, the £250K would be a mixture of SIPP, S&S ISA's and Unit Trusts funds waiting to be transferred to S&S Isa's at a later date if that makes a difference. With Fidelity it's total investments within their platform.

Let us know how you get on.

Here is a thought. If you have a significant amount in a Cavendish S&S ISA, what is stopping you transferring the whole lot over to iweb or Halifax then just leaving it there whilst you build up your monthly payments into a new Cav account, then doing the same again thus getting the zero dealing charges of Cav in the short term and the flat rate in the long term.

Would you have to time it right as not to have two S&S Isas opened in the same year or because you are not contributing to the iweb one it would be OK?

I transferred in specie from Cavendish to iWeb, after checking that my funds were available on iWeb. The transfer completed in just a few days. No problems, no charges.

Nothing to stop you doing that. I think that technique was suggested on Monevator some time ago.

You can open 2 ISAs in the same year. You can subscribe new money to just one of them.

Thank you for your response as always, however I have been told by a few people and in fact read on this forum that iWeb is not a great platform but others say its fine - why such contradictory comments?

Is the the website design, customer service or what?

Without trawling through every thread mentioning IWEB, I can't recall any major criticisms of IWEB.

I've been with them for a few years and I also have an account with Hargreaves Lansdown. IWEB website is not as 'flash' as HL's, but it does all I need it to do, at a far lower cost, for me, than HL.

As a lump sum buy & hold investor, IWEB's £5 transaction fee and no annual charge suits me for my S&S ISA. It might not be the same for you though.

Some people expect web sites to have all-singing, all-dancing bells and whistles; others prefer sites that just do the job.
    Iweb is the latter.

I couldn't really comment about Iweb's customer service as I've never had to use it. My only interactions have been entirely automated, except for downloading ISA Transfer forms, filling them in and posting back to Iweb. The transfers happened smoothly, well within the expected transfer time.

That's what I'm doing. There will be a period where I can't contribute to the ISA but it's not a major issue. I don't do every year but wait till it's built up a bit before switching

I forgot about the IWEB customer service part of the question.

When my S&S ISA transfer from HL to IWEB went wrong, with both sides blaming the other, IWEB were initially not especially helpful. However, they did eventually get it sorted and paid me some compensation even though HL were at least partly to blame.

I've only contacted once since and was perfectly happy with the service.
