Being chased for a fine I have paid

Hi, I've had a look through old threads but couldn't see anything similar so here goes:
My wife (stupidly) paid Civil Enforcement £80 last July. I have bank statements to confirm this.
Since then we've received escalating letters from ZZPS and Wright Hassall Solicitors demanding payment. They will not accept that we have paid already. CE do not respond to emails and you can't phone them to simply ask them how many times has my car been ticketed - if the answer is one then I can prove I have paid it.
I think it's too late to submit a POPLA appeal (although as it's already been paid not sure what they'd be able to do?)
Any advice? How do I get these clowns off my back?
Thanks!

Shame your wife paid, no need to, but it happens.
If you have proof that you paid then send a letter to CEL using the post and get a postal receipt, it's free.
I would include an invoice for £80 to cover the harassment caused by Wright Hassall and the so called ZZPS.
This is a case that CEL would lose in court and Wright Hassall AKA ZZPS or whatever stupid alias they use tomorrow

Make a very strong complaint to the BPA and copy in the DVLA. Contact details:

Also write to you MP to appraise them of this dreadful industry. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

what sometimes happens is when people pay, the ppc realises they have a live one and they will try and milk them for more, sometimes by saying you missed a deadline or some such.
In other words they have you marked as an easy target/a mug and will keep on trying. From the Plain Language Commission:
