(Comet ®) SIP LunaStorm MEC 80/2,65 Pressure Washer: Specs + Oil + Accessories?

Hello gents,

Past 3 dead Karchers I acquired second hand (high?) Pressure washer SIP LUNASTORM MEC 80/2,65.

Actually rung support at SIP, they said it must be over 20 year old model and they don't have no data or more specific answers on the unit itself.

It works still well, possibly too well, as one of my Karchers hose, trigger gun and lancer failed once fitted. Water started to pour through the trigger.
I did take it apart and its all plastic pressed together components and hard to understand where and what failed, but seems it is deliberate design and “specification game” within trigger...

Here is the specification of the dead one

1900 watt induction motor
130 maximum bar pressure
400 litres per hour

Now, SIP as you see in actual MODEL, I believe to be: MEC 80/2,65
Is rated 8l/min (~480l/hr) 100Bar and 1500PSI(=~103.4 Bar) ,
however it has no AutoStop function, as it is just metal pump and pressure is meant to be held up to the trigger whilst it is not in use.

Connector seem to be standard of some other, than BSP standard



Q1: Unless somebody is going to correct me in helping me to get more detailed specs of the SIP it all boils down to the gimmicky Karcher claims for the pressure load and maximum load etc Vs actual performance.

In relation to those I’ve researched and learned that IE petrol washers are even more powerful (190+ Bar) although lances, triggers are priced up near the same (IE http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162419672829 ). Do I run risk of having some malfunction in using way higher rated trigger/lance etc? (pipe did held up)

Q2: Lancers and those performance under different pressures.
(Apart from an issue of different fittings in-between...)

I used Bosch made trigger gun and lancer on my karcher (before it went) and have been disappointed with lance performance (two metal plates at the end), whereas Karcher nozzle (lancer) performs way better for a clean-flat pattern (cleaning up mainly). (as IE http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361659323151 )

Q3:
Fed up with all the ordinary garden hoses and fittings as they keep on cracking/breaking through winters, (as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272308538570 ) heavy bulky to carry in my van (as IE http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131130462153 )

Anybody would have tried this type of hose WITH Pressure washers?

What would happen, if I was to join couple of them to reach where I need to reach?

Q4: Connectors (bath-kitchen tap to a hose) :
I kept using Hazelock (I think) adapter but that one is broken (similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131449930748 ) and leaks at the most of circumstances, once in a while customer has no outside tap, have to use kitchen tap (those are near mad in different shapes etc), often I end up using insulation tape, just to get the job done, which almost always leaves residue to clean up afterwards...
anybody would suggest tested and proven (universal, lasting) make adapter?
IE http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131867641655 would cover many circumstances on garden taps, but clearly would be near useless in circumstance of kitchen taps.

Also, Brass ones, in my experience are not good (IE http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302035773123) as they are often sticky, seize up etc, unless its question of quality and £££ paid, but personally being a tight git, I do prefer decent plastic ones.

I did change the oil, that's been horrendous. Having not found no specification, I used RedLine LightWeight ShockProof Motorcycle transmission oil

Q6: Anybody knows if Silverline uses one or the other compatible connections? I am tempted with this cheap trigger set up (getting new pipe too) and to use Karcher lancer spray end?

I regularly use one of those expandable hoses on the input side of my pressure washer without any problems.

I have not tried using two or more but cannot think of any reason why that wouldn't work.

One of the selling points of that type of hose is that they don't kink.

In my experience a dirty hose works just as well as a clean one.

Neither of those points are specific to pressure washer use.

No, I wouldn't argue in that respect, just not been clear as why I asked- people (women) do give me ...herm looks, when I lay out my filthy pipes in their houses ...

And usually, once finished job (and washing off), wrapping up everything all of the hoses are wet and dirty

Bough another, fitting on the outlet is NOT standard BSB ("big step") 3/4" or 19-20mm thread, Bosch pipe and trigger fitted (rated 130Bar, more honestly than Karcher),blown through connection of pipe and the trigger...

Seems that FEMALE adapter(fine thread- as BSP standard thread) outer diameter is 13/16" and thread is fine as no bigger than 1.5mm (M22 x 1.0mm?)
Anyway, it is clear that it builds great pressure and I'll have to get even higher rated trigger and lance.

Yes and nature of the question had changed a bit, also, the drawing of the pump (hopefully technically minded people would recognise) has been of principal, not the one- near identical, might be helpful for the answers...


Also threads and trademarks scenario has become clear, SIP only put livery and trademark on machine, but drooped it for own builds, as thread turns out to be Italian-German standard, not BSP and link above makes me certain of its origins. It is 99%- made by COMET, not SIP.

Funnily enough I have been sent link back to this thread, as I asked for info on MotorCyclists forum page

You have to empty&dry and try to avoid freezing also sun in the summer does not help longer term.

(Tested shrinking hose)
this rubber is pain! it dragged itself back in to the posh house hallway, as I just let it go... little spillage... don't look that robust TBH and dirt will stick to it... (to a clumsy, in a hurry, me )

Not binning the old one yet, but developing some sort of affection to it, as 150ft hose fitting in a half of a carrier bag! :T
