last night i went through the endless crappy leaflets about warranty, safety etc that came with the pc and came across one that i had took no notice of. it tells me how to back up the system with discs. it says when i start doing it it will tell me how many discs i need. i can also stop at any time and go back to it where i left off.

most of your setting relating to the operation of the computer are stored under the user account - documents and settings

there are free back up software that you can get from download.com which should be able to sort oyu out without resorting to costly software such as norton ghost etc
