Derv,
Press the 'Sat' button, select 'Astra 2', choose channel CNN (could be any channel)
Press Menu, go into Installation, pass 0000, Manual TP search
Make sure 'Astra 2' is selected.
This screen gives you an audio as well as a visual signal strength. Useful if you can't keep your eyes on the screen.
Make sure the LNB is pushed forwards in the clamp.
Point the dish in a roughly south direction, angle it at about 10-35 degrees upwards.
Make sure the top screw tightner is fairly loose so you can move the dish freely.
Move the dish slowly towards the east. Upto about 40 degrees east. Then back again.
Change the upward angle slightly and move it back and forth again.
For a rough idea of where you should point:
If practical you can attach the little compass to the dish or the box if using it. If not just hold it. Move the inner circle to point the 'city' outer arrow at london. The 2 nodules on the compass should point away from you.
move your body until the compass arrow points at astra.
Whichever direct you are facing is pointing towards astra satellites. (not the compass arrow that always points south) directly infront of the 'city' mark
You can also look at other peoples sat dishes for a rough idea of the direction.
Once you get one you'll get the idea.
It will start to 'ping' through the speaker as you hit the right spot. and the quality will go up. Move it around a tiny amount to get the quality upto 60+ and that will do for a start, tighten the top screw up.
Use this page to get the names of the satellites

the 13 degrees east etc is the number of degrees from south to look for the satellite.
the software for this box will be 'upgradable' through the RS232 port at some point. i.e. you can attach it to your computer via a null modem cable to patch the firmware. This will allow for the additional.
Astra 1 is actually the easiest sat to hit i think. and I found I could get them at ground level by sticking the suction clamp on the patio door. if you have something solid infront of you it could be a problem?0 -

Another weekend spent vainly trying to get the thing to work - still 0% signal.
I did find lots more useful info on eXthus Forums which may help others.0
