Can I ask how I should go about asking a bank IF I had PPI at all?
I am pretty sure I have never had PPI because I've always refused protection due to my job but I've read that some people had PPI without knowing it.
I know the banks I've had loans & finance with and my credit report shows the last couple of digits on some of the account numbers but not all.
One of the finance agreements was with Ford Credit Europe so is it worth writing to them as well. I also know I know I've had finance in the past for furniture from the likes of DFS but there's no way I can remember the actual name of the finance company.
I guess the question I'm asking - is it enough to write to the lender saying "I had a loan/finance agreement with you between dates **** for ***** reason and my address was ********" ?

Did you check your statements? If it wasn't listed there then you didn't have it.
The people that claim they never knew are the ones that fail to check their statements.
But yes, if you want to check then give them a call. If you're looking a long way back then you may need to put the request in writing.0 -
Some PPI might not be obvious from your statements - for example the kind of PPI which was added to a loan and paid back as part of the regular direct debit.0

Yes, that's certainly an acceptable way to phrase your request. However, do note that the older this finance is the more chance of records no longer existing. You may also find that Lenders will treat any such letter as a Subject Access Request (SAR) for which they can charge £10.bertiewhite wrote: »I guess the question I'm asking - is it enough to write to the lender saying "I had a loan/finance agreement with you between dates **** for ***** reason and my address was ********" ?
I agree. The OP never mentioned having any credit cards and these are the only finance where a PPI payment would definitely show every month itemised on a separate line. Some PPI might not be obvious from your statements
Not always the case by any means, certainly Front Loaded Loan PPI would not show separately on statements. If it wasn't listed there then you didn't have it.0 -

That's also untrue of some store card PPI.
Although the RBS Group and Santander have provided assurances that it was a failing in a relatively small number of stores involving Style cards and Burton cards respectively in the 1990s, so it should only affect thousands rather than millions. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0
