Um - any leaks/condensation and you'll be wearing the wallpaper strips on your heads!

Hi Oligopoly, you have an Ultralite500 poly roof. It was the only roof on the market at the time that could be fitted as low as 2 degrees. It's different to a normal poly roof as it's not glazed, the poly slides up through the grooves of the RSJ style glazing bar. That's why when they fail no one can ever change them properly.
If anyone installs you a traditional poly or glass system they will have to raise the whole roof to at least 5 or 6 degrees which the minimum for a glazed rubber gasket style glazing bar.

At the time Ultralite500 was the best but now they are awful compared to modern poly. Sorry!

Sorry for the sloooowest reply ever. The leaking has got worse. What are my options? Replace the whole roof with more Ultralite500? Can't afford to replace the whole roof with glass....

No, don't replace with more Ultralite, there is an art to fitting it correctly and an approved Ultralite installer will charge you a fortune.
Give MWR a call on 0121 353 5646 (I know them well) they can answer any questions you have.

    Good luck
  • as docmatt has said it is an ultralite 500 roof. In my experience they usually leak in the way you've described because the glazing beads lose their compression as they age and the black rubber seal becomes dry and brittle. If you can source new glazing beads i would recommend changing them. I know ultralite have had manufacturing issues for almost two years now and replacement panel availability is patchy. As others have said before changing the roof you would ned to be sure that the structure could support any additional weight

We replaced the polycarbonate roof on our 3.5 x 3 m conservatory twelve months ago by the company that installed it for us, we had an argon filled blue tinted glass roof installed for £1800.

They had to replace the complete roof as the panels were a different thickness and weight

How did you find your new roof? Are you happy with it? I am trying to find someone reliable to replace the leaky glass roof of my conservatory, just wondering where about the company you used for your conservatory, £1.8 K seems a pretty good price!

The glass roof is excellent far superior to the original polycarbonate roof, it was replaced by the original suppliers and installers, they are a small local company who have installed windows and conservatories for several people we know and come with a good reputation, but they only work in the of West Cornwall area.
