Strange Things Going On

I do not know if this is in the right place or not, but I would appreciate some ideas on this situation.
The next door neighbours, who were a flipping nightmare, moved out last year. There was a good raft of rowing going on in early 2016.
Then in May 2016 they both moved out, but he took his stuff and car from the garage and she took the house things, furniture etc, but when they came to remove stuff they were never together. The property is empty and has been since last May! No one knows what is going on and he turns up once a week to cut the lawns, but hasn't been seen since October last year.
The property is empty it is not up for sale. The remaining curtains in the house downstairs are drawn permanently but there is nothing at the upstairs windows. I know this might seem really nosey but it's a strange carrying on. Everybody is asking me what is happening and I am stumped - I just don't know.
Have any of you got any ideas what this could be? I did think probably divorce given the terrible rowing earlier last year, but it seems weird to leave a property empty especially now as the council tax has laws regarding empty properties. There is no heating on at all by the way. Its just a shell I keep looking on wrong move and again - nothing.
She is living in a small two bed terraced rented property in another village at the present.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Ask the owner when he comes to mow the lawn again now that Spring is here.0

mind your own business,. "a gossip is like a dripping tap." if they are both alive then that should be enough."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Erm that could be difficult as we don't speak - in fact they have rowed with all the neighbours, so thats probably why we are all intrigued as to what is going on! I should think we would be the very last to hear anything. Although I will say that he apologised to the other neighbour just before they left as there was an epic row with them in which the police were called! Everybody suspects that he said sorry because they would have to declare that when they came to sell it!!0

I'm sorry to ask this - but what has all that has gone on next door to do with you? Are you affected by the vacant property? Or is it simply plain nosiness?0

Any thoughts on what?
I'm at a loss as to what any of this is to do with you. Or us....
...... or even why I replied.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I'm intrigued as to how you know the heating isn't on if the curtains are drawn and you haven't been in the property.0

thorsoak - the top part of the back fence panel crashed down in Storm Doris and we have it propped up with a fence post and some rope holding it around the post. The place looks pretty unkempt at present. The British Gas meter reader has been twice to our door (and the other side) wanting to try and gain access - to read the meter presumably. We have said the property is empty and a guy turned up on Friday afternoon wanting to know their whereabouts. It's all odd!0

I expect that they are separated and have not yet agreed on what is happening with the house. Possibly neither of them can afford the mortgage and each fears being expected to pay it if they move in.All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0

The gas boiler outlet is not in use at all, it used to be quite noisy, you could clearly hear it as well as see it. Not heard it in a long time.0

Well of course most people would be interested, and perhaps a little concerned, about strange happenings in the house next door to them.
I imagine the couple have probably separated and a divorce will be pending but that meanwhile somebody is having to pay the mortgage to prevent the bank or building society taking possession. If both the parties are now having to live elsewhere, they are probably financially stretched paying two rents plus a mortgage. You may find in time that a For Sale notice goes up.
They are probably in a bitter feud and if the property was in joint names, they may not be able to sell if both parties are not in agreement. It seems risky though not having the heating on over winter with the risk of burst pipes. The mains water may be turned off of course, which reduces, but doesn't eliminate that risk we have an unexpected spell of really cold weather.
The guy who turned up may be a debt collector. It's possible that one or both of them are now getting into financial difficulties.
do you still see the postman delivering mail? They may have made arrangements for this to be redirected of course. And is the damaged fence their property or yours. if it's theirs, you could always try putting a note about it through their letterbox although it doesn't look as if anybody's likely to be visiting to collect any mail.
You could try regularly Googling "Property for sale at 12 West Street, or whatever the address is to see if anything comes up re a potential property sale.0
