If I cancel a claim to fix my roof will my premiums be affected?

Hi all,
Will try to be brief :)
Lost a roof ridge tile to storm Ewan. I initially decided to avoid an insurance claim as policy excess is £250 - probably more than the job will cost.
I phoned lots of roofers but couldn't get one to come out so rang ins.co.who said assessor can't come out until next Friday.
Now found a roofer, coming tomorrow :j
Question is, will I be penalised for cancelling my claim or will it be classed as 'no claim'.

Thanks in advance. ;)

Yes your premiums will be impacted because you've notified them of an incident. However, if you proceed with the claim you'll then lose some NCB.

If the cost of the work is under your excess then there isn't a claim and the insurer will close it anyway. You'll keep your NCB but the base premium will still go up because you've had a 'loss'.

You can find out what effect this will have on future premiums by doing dummy quotes online.

Do quotes without this in your history and with it in as a "loss" (no claim made) to see the impact this makes.

(Irrespective of how this is dealt with you will need to disclose the incident to future insurers you approach for quotes over the next 3/5 years depending on the length of history asked for)

You should never contact your insurer regarding an incident unless you are certain you intend to make a claim

Hypothetically, what if your roofer took a look at the roof and told you the ridge tiles were actually fine?
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

What, a builder who investigates and then says there is no work needed? Send me his details :)
