UPVC external cladding
Options

I am looking at re-cladding my property which has wooden cladding at the moment. I need to replace it with a dark brown timber effect UPVC cladding as the planning department have said I must replace with a similar looking product. I am struggling to find any dark brown cladding anywhere, does anybody know of a product that is available.
Thanks.
Thanks.

You've got a few options if you don't want wood. I've been looking into alternatives to wood cladding myself for a future project (garden office).
You could use cement fibre board cladding like Cedral or Hardie Plank. Plenty of colours available.

There's also wood plastic composite:

If you really want an artificial material then all of these options would look much nicer than uPVC IMO.0 -

Thanks for your reply,
I did look at fibre cement and would prefere it, but as the property is timber framed and built on piles, (which do sink a little bit each year) I was concerned about the weight of the boards as they weigh a lot more than UPVC.0 -
Why not paint the existing cladding white or whatever colour you like first.
Then replace it with similar looking upvc cladding.0 -
I did think of that but that's a lot of hassle painting the whole building.
That is my argument with planning, they say I have to use a matching colour as it is now, but I could paint the existing colour any colour I want without having to get any permission. Also all the properties down the road are all cladded in different colours, so I feel as though they are being awkward.0 -
Is it in a conservation area? I can't see what it has to do with Planning.
My only experience of this was when my neighbour replaced his timber cladding with dark brown Upvc. It was a south face and consequently the plastic bent all over the place in the heat and it was a total disaster!0 -
If the reason they are being fussy about this is because you're in a conservation area then I can't imagine they'd be that happy with you putting up uPVC cladding either so there's something to think about.
If you're worried about the weight of the CFB cladding then maybe consider the wood plastic composite board? Should be much lighter.0 -
Two neighbours had barge boards replaced with brown pvcu. Both are facing roughly east. Both are faded to a milky grey white colour so be very careful before choosing pvcu.
My downpipes have gone from brown to milky colour after only a couple of years. Another neighbours south facing front door in brown pvcu is in a dreadful state of fading and bleaching.
The bottom line is brown pvcu, or wood grained pvcu, can be a disaster area if used on a house!0 -
It is on the Norfolk Broads and needs planning permission for anything (even replacing a shed, like for like). The Broads Authority have never allowed UPVC cladding but a neighbour has just won an appeal to use it, so I can't see how they can refuse any other neighbors now.0

You might be right but also consider the points above about fading and UV resistance and also, IMO, PVC cladding isn't a great look.0
