Tax exempt historic vehicle - change of keeper

In the next few days I may be buying a tax exempt historic car. Am I right in thinking that upon change of keeper the current "free" tax will not transfer to me, and that I will have to tax the vehicle again at nil cost?
Basically - should I treat this just the same as buying any other car, only I won't have to pay a fee for the tax?

Yes, it is exactly the same, also, unless exempt, it needs a valid MOT on the day the tax starts.
People have been fined for not taxing vehicles with a NIL tax rate!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

No MOT test needed if it's built before 1960.0
