Why is it that when my HP laptop is plugged in and charging the screen is dimmer than not charging?

Surely it should be the other way round?

    it's configurable for on and off mains - in power settings.

    Something has gone a bit awry with your power schedule, that's all.

    I recently found I've got a bit of a conflict on my laptop between Windows and the Thinkpad power management software, if you change one, the other eventually changes it back.... Quite annoying!

    How do I do that - my settings are (Recommended H P Settings)?
