in Credit cards
I bought a hotpoint tumble dryer in November 2007 which is deemed unsafe to operate and so I want to make a s75 claim on the credit card company I used. The only problem is I dont know which one and the receipt I have only has the last 4 digits of the card showing.
Is there anyway of tracking down the company?
Would my credit history on Experian have the details?
Or should I claim on the shop that sold me the dryer?
Thanks for any assistance!!

A ten year old tumble dryer is virtually worthless in terms of value. You'll be lucky if you get £10.0

Sorry I can't answer the point about identifying the card. I used to have an Experian subscription, but I let it lapse along time ago. It did show card numbers, so together with your receipt you can probably identify the card.
Potentially you can sue both the shop and the CC. There will likely be an argument over limitation because you bought the dryer more than 6 years ago. You generally have 6 years from the date of breach. If you are arguing that the device was always faulty, then you you are probably time barred. Suing under negligence has different limits for latent damage, but S75 applies to contractual claims only.
BUT, if you have been using the thing for so many years, it will be difficult to prove you have suffered much of a loss. You certainly wouldn't get a refund. You might be able to claim money to buy a replacement, but this would likely be reduced by consideration of the use you have had out of the old one, despite it's defects.0 -
Dont be silly, you have had the machine 10 years, they will laugh their socks off at you.

Well I tracked down my credit card company and called them. After a short conversation they agreed to compensate me 2/3 of the purchase price.
Must have been my silver tongue. Just goes to show what can be achieved if you're positive and ignore the dumb advice some people like to dish out.0 -

I don't believe you. Even valid claims would require you to submit receipts, complete a form and that be passed to the relevant team. It certainly wouldn't happen in the space of a short conversation.0 -
I agree - but ready to be proved wrong if you can prove it.0

for a start they don't agree s75 claims just like thatDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
