I use Skype and have not had any problems with it. It is a great way to chat for free!
  • Hi

There's more info on it in the Completely Free Calls Worldwide via your PC article.

The quality is pretty good and it's fairly easy to set up. One tip is to make sure you change the settings so that other Skype users need your authorisation to talk to you otherwise you could get calls from anyone anywhere.

I have been using Skype for aroud two months, with no problems. As well as having friends and family on it, I have several contacts from all over the world, whom I've met on Skype. Obviously you need to be a little cautious when talking to complete strangers, but the people I've had contact with so far have all been polite and respectful.

If I wanted to use Skype in the Uk, how would I go about getting relatives in Aus to use it? Would I need to buy the program & ear phones etc from Uk & send it to them so they can set it up on thier computer?
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Hi Aussielass

For you to call your relatives in Aus you both need the following:

The Skype programme - free download to anywhere in the world

Both parties need broadband - dial-up does not work very well

Both parties need a headset (preferably a USB one) or a special Dualphone - If you just use a mike and speakers the person at the distant end will hear their own voice being picked up from your speakers through your mike.

Thats all there is to it.

I have been using Skype with both a headset and dualphone for the last four months without any problems. I use a dualphone so that I do not have to near my PC to receive or make a call. To find out about Dualphone have a look on the Skype Hardware forum where you will find many threads about it.

    Regards
