Reduced item fault. Rights to swap with non-reduced same item?

Hello MSE people,
I hope I post into this forum correctly.
Bought a Kenwood Kmix mixer at TK Maxx yesterday on my credit card for £123. It was reduced (twice). Next to it in the same aisle was the same item, but with a better condition box for £199. We seemed a little shocked and so asked if it had anything wrong. They said it was fine, it just hadn't sold so was reduced. Everything was in the box so we bought it.
Cut to getting it home... at the most adjusted setting, the beaters all are consistently touching the bottom of the bowl. There seems to be no problem with the mixer itself or whatever else.
Anyway. My question:
Do I have any right to go back to TK Maxx and request a swap without paying the full whack? It was not advertised as damaged or with missing parts, so we were sold the mixer on the same premise as we'd buy a full price one; eg. it worked.
Hope someone can help clarify.
Thanks for your help.

You can certainly ask about an exchange but the retailer are within their rights to refuse and in all likelihood, this is what they will do.0

For the beaters to be touching the bottom it's either the wrong beaters or the wrong bowl (possibly once had more than one on display and people swapped the parts around) or the beaters are not correctly inserted thus sticking down too far.
If it is faulty or has the wrong parts it will be up to TKmaxx to decide whether they are happy to do a straight swap, ask you to pay the difference or just refund, as much as it would be nice if you could get the other one they have no obligation to allow it.0 -
Have you made certain that the beaters are fully locked in to place?
They may push in to the locating holes then lock with a twist that might move them upwards slightly.0 -

I've got a Chef and a Chefette and the beaters do touch the bottom of the bowl - if they didn't then there would be unmixed ingredients left at the bottom of the bowl. The fault would be if the beaters didn't rotate properly ie stick and don't move.0 -

As the owner of a Kmix, I can state for a fact that the mixers should not touch the bottom of the bowl. This is clearly stated in the instruction manual.
There is no problem with unmixed ingredients due to the mixers oscillating around the bowl and not staying in the centre.
OP, if you have a look at the accessories that came with the mixer, you should find a metal spanner.
This spanner is specifically for adjusting the length of the shaft of the mixers and provided that there isn't another fault causing the problem, a small tweak should sort it out.
If you look in the user manual, it will show exactly what you need to do. (It's a very simple job)0 -
You won't get a full price replacement for a reduced price item you purchased. You will definitely receive a refund, though.0
