Clothes Steamers

Hello,
Does anyone use a clothes steamer instead of an iron?
We need to get a new ironing board and iron, but are considering getting a steamer instead. We have a rail on which we can hang the clothes whilst steaming them.
For everyday ironing rather than travelling we are thinking of getting a larger unit in the hope that this will cope with everything, including jeans, but are they easy to use, or even any good?
