A trader just handed me the keys and the trade plates, not sure that was legal. Pretty sure its only valid for staff and accompanied test drives?

It could be legal depending on his insurance but purely from a trade plate point of view it is ok.0 -
I've taken cars out for unaccompanied extended test drives from main dealers on trade plates on more than one occasion.
Last time, it just had the front plate lying on the dash. No plates at all on the front or back. I only realised when I walked round the car afterwards.0
