RBS can't find any record of my account

I was mis-sold PPI by RBS on a loan which was taken out in 2003 and paid off in 2006. I no longer have any of the paperwork, statements, account numbers etc. I have contacted the PPI dept of RBS and several other departments. All keep asking for the account details and sort code as they cannot locate any record of me at all. I have given them all my addresses during the loan period, every way of spelling my name etc but nothing.
I have copies of my HSBC bank statements which show the initial payment loan coming into my HSBC account from RBS Telemarketing. I also have all the HSBC statements showing repayments leaving my account to 'Royal Bank of Scotland Personal Loan' every month over the next three years until the last payment leaves entitled 'RBS Personal Loan Final Payment'.
Most recently I have requested a 'Subject Access Request' asking for all the details RBS hold on me. They have also asked me to supply them with more information as they cannot find any record of me.
Can anyone help with what I should do next? Surely RBS can't have lost all record of my account?
Many thanks for any help at all!

You have done the only thing you can do and that is spending £10 on a DSAR. Wait and see what that shows up.Surely RBS can't have lost all record of my account?
The regulator recommends 6 years after closure for documentation. If you banked with them, they may hold details longer but if it was a standalone loan with no other business, then destruction could well have been done many years ago.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Is there no mention of a reference number against any of the direct debits on your HSBC statements? You really need to locate the RBS loan account number.
I was in a similar situation three years ago with this bank. I knew there was a PPI policy attached to an RBS credit card from 2000 to 2003 but when I sent a DSAR they said they could not find any records.
Eventually I found the card number in my own archive and RBS located the account details but only back to 2002, however it was enough for a complaint to proceed.
My advice in your case would be to keep looking, as having the account number is essential in complaints about historic financial products, as lenders say they need the number to search their older systems, like microfiche.
Who knows you might get lucky with your DSAR, hope you do0
