Low deposit holiday myth?

You have copied the details from a conformation. When you book a holiday or service they will provide terms and conditions to which you must agree. This is stated outright. If you can give the company name I am sure we can demonstrate this for you. In the event that they are not available and you have a loophole to cancel - i am sure someone will find that (although it is unlikely).
I've gone through all the terms and conditions below the confirmation and the only relevant one is this:
If you booked using a Low Deposit Offer, the full deposit amount stated on your confirmation invoice will need to be paid upon cancellation.
I can't see anywhere on the confirmation that it was booked on a Low Deposit Offer or that there was a different figure for the full deposit.0 -
Others have asked.. who was it booked with.
A low deposit is just that. A low deposit not a full deposit0 -
How much was the deposit without the offer ? It's quite clear that they took advantage of a low deposit offer, can't see what the issue is really, they state full deposit is due if cancelled. "Low deposit offer" indicates it should be higher, it's not a myth.0

After a google search, I assume it was Thomson or First Choice (or Tui group)? If so, when was she due to travel?Period Before Departure When Notice Of Cancellation Is Received
Percentage Of Total Booking Price
70 days or more
Loss of deposit
69 – 57 days
30%
56 - 36 days
50%
35 - 22 days
70%
21 - 15 days
90%
14 - 0 days 100%
If it is outwith these timescales you need to find a document titled "confirmation invoice" - if you can't find it contact who you booked through and have them re-send it.0 -
So how is she to know that this was a low deposit booking? Can anyone see where the 'real' deposit is stated as I can't?
You seem to have found the information from the Operator regarding the low deposit. I'm sure if you continue to read the booking information it will tell you the deposit amount normally required. Anything less will be the Low Deposit promotion amount.
A couple of people have asked you already to say which Operator this was booked with. You don't seem to want to mention it. Perhaps you have found the answer yourself to the difference between the regular deposit and the promotion but are still hoping for an escape clause.
If it is Thomson/First Choice as someone else suggested then this is also in the T&Cs
"Low Deposit Offer
This offer is per passenger. We can change or withdraw this offer at any time. The rest of the deposit will be due within eight weeks of you booking your holiday. If you cancel your holiday you still have to pay the full deposit."0 -
This information on the Thomson Holidays site regarding deposits and the low deposit offer:
http://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/info/low-deposit
And this on the First Choice site:

Your only hope is it is an airtours holiday as they have been doing £50pp deposits. But Thomas cook, Thomson and First choice are all £200pp but the agent you booked with may have done it for £50pp and as the others say £150pp to be paid if the holiday is to be cancelled before the full payment is due.0

Airtours are offering low deposits, either £49 or £25 depending on how the holiday is being paid, but the balance of the deposit still needs to be paid in the event of cancellation, the same as Thomas Cook, Thomson and First Choice does.0

Depends when the holiday was booked a while back the full deposit for Airtours was £50pp it wasn't a low deposit. The £25pp is if you pay by direct debit and yes the full deposit does need paying if you cancel.0 -
She booked online with First Choice. Nowhere does it mention that this is a low deposit. I have a copy of the confirmation invoice with all the terms and conditions and it just says they paid £100 and the balance is due by 16th March. It is dishonest of a company to then say the deposit is £400. I don't believe it is legal to do so.0
