Playing music on my galaxy phone

Options
Hi

I have a number of albums downloaded onto my Samsung Galaxy S4. They are stored on a file. When I try to play a song I get a message 'No app can perform this action.'

Can anyone help please and tell me what app I need.

Thanks
Val :)

what app are you using to play them? are they stored on sdcard? some music apps won't recognised music on sdcard. i would try google play music as they will also backup music and enable you to play on any device. if you need to store music on sdcard then poweramp will play them

What does that mean? Do you mean they are stored on the phone or an SD card plugged into the phone? Where have you put the albums - in a Music folder?

Music files are usually MP3. But they could also be WMA (Windows) or M4A (Apple). How are you trying to play a track?

You could download any number of Music player apps, but you should already have a music player app on your phone.

Have you tried opening the app first, letting it find your music library then selecting a track to play?

Thanks for the reply. The albums are stored on my device. I go into 'my files' then a folder called 'albums'. I have an app called 'Music'. I opened it and selected search but nothing came up.

Where did you download them from? are they in files as an MP3?.
If they are stored on your phone properly then the Music app will pick them up automatically. I suggest you delete the files and re-download them onto your phone if it's seeing nothing.

On an Android device it is best to put music files in a Music folder (either on the device or in a Music folder on an SD card). You can then have individual folders with artist names, then album names, and then individual song files in these album folders. Example:
    Music
           ACDC
                  Highway To hell
                                       01 Highway To Hell.mp3
                                       02 Girls Got Rhythm.mp3
                                       Etc.

Pretty much all Music apps will recognise this structure and find the files.

The default android music player and Google Play Music won't play all music file formats, for example wma files.
But if your files are in this format you can easily install a player that will recognise and play them.

To find out what format the files are in you will need to use a File manager/explorer app to navigate to the folder and see what the file extension is on those files. (the bit after the dot in the file name)

as i mentioned earlier poweramp is a great music app. it will recognise most formats and has no problem playing music on sdcard.

there is a free 15 trial version on the play store. the full version is currently £3.39. they regularly do special offers, it was 10p 3 months ago
