How long ago was that role? Generally, a CV only needs to be the most recent 5 jobs / 10 years nowadays, so it may not be relevant x

About 30 years ago! I realised I've no qualms about leaving out some small jobs I did, the list is quite long in a working lifetime. DH also thinks they won't be interested in it and I can't remember the name of the family I worked for so I'm as sure as I can be I'm overthinking it. It can stay out!

In fact I've been in my current post over 10 years, and it's with the same employer as the application.

Sounds to me more like you walked away from the job than the other way round.

That's kind of you but it was the other way round! Though I did my best to make sure no one else ended up in the same situation, by telling the job centre where it had been advertised. I don't think she was happy with someone else looking after her kids, and this was how it showed.

Whenever I apply for internal jobs I only ever list the most recent ones on my CV. I’ve been with the same employer for 23 years so just mention the roles I’ve had with them. A few years ago a colleague was dismissed for misuse of systems dealing with confidential information and walked straight into another job with the NHS also dealing with confidential information! We were all stunned! So I wouldn’t worry about something that happened 30 years ago which doesn’t sound like your fault anyway.

That's shocking, but sounds like poor referencing / pre-employment checks - one of the few questions allowed is about any disciplinary / capability action which should have flagged this.

I managed to get the form sent yesterday after staying up really late with it. We didn’t leave for our break till going on for 4pm.

We are staying at my sister’s which does double duty of giving us time away and helping the house stay habitable before they come to live here permanently. It smelled damp as there had been a burst pipe months ago, but we soon had it aired and everything seemed in order, before we discovered that each of us thought the other had put my case in the car!

I know where it is, it’s on the spare bed.

I had some other bags with me so there were jumpers and makeup and activities - but no clothes or medication. This morning was therefore an expedition to compensate but a local charity shop helped. I now have essential spare jeans and tee shirts plus a wrap and a cardigan that I just liked. ‘Smalls’ will just have to be washed overnight for a couple of days as I’ve not found anywhere here that sells them. 😆

Getting medication was quite expensive as Scottish pharmacies have to charge to process prescriptions from English surgeries unless I signed up as a temporary resident which sounded as though it might take a while. I took the advice of a pharmacist that I’d probably be fine without them for a few days and only ordered the one I need most, buying the over the counter form of two others and leaving the remainder for now.

We did our grocery shopping locally but I brought a casserole from home for tea tonight.

The afternoon was spent around Melrose: we discovered a great second hand bookshop where the owner showed me some fascinating old cookery books with photo of long-gone cookers and dishes that no one makes any more. I’d already decided on two books so I didn’t buy more than that but it was worth spending the extra time there.

We had a walk towards a local viewpoint so my legs will ache tomorrow as it was steep! We didn’t do the whole distance but we certainly got some exercise. We had just time to investigate another charity shop before it closed, resulting in a china toad. I can’t be let loose, honestly.

This evening we’ve had a short walk locally and watched bats flying near the castle.

    Expenditure:
    Clothing £15
    housekeeping £31.54
    toiletries £1.75
    medical £22.01
    household £2.50

My 2nd ex-husband once left my clothes hanging on the wardrobe door in Blackpool when we were going to a family celebration in Kirkcaldy. He had to buy me a new outfit at the Gretna outlet as I couldn't go to the party in my jeans & hoodie 🙄🤣

    😆😆

Quite a bit of spending today: groceries are really expensive here, but I also went to the most amazing hardware shop (been there before and had to go back for the sheer fun of exploring!) and the other charity shop was open, so I have a beautiful blue linen top which will be good as the weather’s gone a bit colder.

I spent nearly £80 on train tickets for tomorrow, only to get an email saying one of the trains is cancelled so we’re going to be waiting an hour at Berwick.

This afternoon was spent looking round some very impressive gardens and we got to chat to the head gardener who’d brought it all back from being overgrown and derelict. He started in 1997 and has recovered the whole huge area in three vast swathes of time and skill.

Oh, and I’ve eaten through the data I got the other day - already! This is what comes of leaving my kindle with my suitcase of clothes!

    Expenditure:
    travel £77.??
    Gifts £4.45
    Housekeeping £2.60 +?
    Clothing £5.00
    Donation 1.00
    Medical £2.99
    Entertainment £12.00
