You're right about the receipts fading away. If you need to keep them I suppose you could photocopy them or take a photo of them on your phone and file them that way.

I think that might be something to do going forward with my personal expenditure, at least for larger items. WRT the Power of Attorney ones, there must be hundreds and many must already have faded. Nearly all are little things like sweets or magazines for Mum when she was in the nursing home, but she was there about five years so definitely a lot! There were occasional big bills like and paying for the cleaner but those are easier to keep track of. As far as I remember I need to keep them for seven years and she's been gone for four, so lots are thankfully obsolete.

Not bad for an MOT, seems they always find something even if it’s just an advisory.

DH and I had our walk to take cake to my friend: she was visiting someone else last time I'd invited her to something, so that explains why we didn't see her. Anyway we had a chat then DH went to the library and I got the supermarket shopping. They were selling off boxes of garden plants so I got seven plants for £3.50 and all are likely to survive. :) I've also got meals for a few days.

DH had a call from a friend who is about to have investigative surgery, and I heard that someone else we know has just had a serious diagnosis, so it's been rather a sobering day in those respects. However the second person has already started treatment and can have it near where they live which is going to make life easier.

It's been cooler today which was welcome. I don't do heat very well. It's brightened up and once I finally got moving (late afternoon!) I did feel better.

Today's finds have included a small bag of random objects which I used to leave at Mum's old house in the days when I went over to visit her. A hairbrush, some nice stuff for skin care as a treat, handbag packs of tissues, antiseptic wipes (not sure why), a razor for my legs to help me feel better about something, some kitchen clips to put on foods that I brought to nibble on (home comforts/erratic meal times at Mum's). All are now distributed back into general circulation, AKA brought back to life, and another little bit of the past is laid to rest. It's good getting closure on things.

    Spending:
    Housekeeping £17.47
    Garden £3.50

    Things I'm thankful for:
    A catch-up with my friend
    Plants for the garden
Cooler air (and free watering for the plants overnight last night)
Useful stuff from the church meeting last night.

An early start for work this morning but, while the shift was busy, we managed and I think I did all the things I was supposed to do.

Nothing spent today, and nothing in the way of moneysaving either. DH has been on to the people from the company he has to deal with in letting out DFiL's flat. He emailed them a while ago for the necessary permissions but didn't hear back. It seems they need to clarify things like the number of bedrooms (which of course DH knew). He's been advised that in a similar case the owner was able just to go ahead and get retrospective permissions, which is very helpful as DH has now been able to speak to the prospective tenant to move things along.

As for me, I've cleaned the lounge windows...

Evening update: I forgot to record that I've taken some steps towards joining a group at church so I'm meeting up with the person who co-ordinates these things on Monday. That will be especially nice as she and I worked together on a similar project over twenty years ago! We've been vaguely in touch since but our paths don't naturally cross and a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then.

Dh and I went for a walk this evening and went round to DFiL#s flat so I could see the nearly-completed decorating. New carpet and coffee-and-cream walls, some updates on the electrics and it's nearly ready for a tenant. We had fun looking through some photos that will eventually come back to us.

Back at home I texted to find out how DF's biopsy has gone and after a two-hour op he has been able to talk to his wife, which is encouraging. He's being kept in overnight so we may hear more in the next day or so.

Eventually I braved doing a bit more work on DS2's room (the one that's full of stuff I brought back from the old house). I didn't really know where to start on the papers so I've cleaned the windows and sill, moved DS2's tank of newts to a different room and rearranged the airing cupboard. My uniform is coming out of there (I usually keep it on an over-the-door hanger) and I've been wiping down paintwork and laminate flooring to freshen it all up. The papers are still a mess, but that side of the room looks pretty good!

    Things I'm thankful for today:
Our friend coming through his op okay, my shift going fairly smoothly this morning, the air being full of the scent of flowers while we were on our walk.

I woke up to a sunny day! DH is WFH so I spent ages playing on my language apps and my French is a little bit better. I have the paid version of one (waited till they had a really good offer back at the beginning of the year) but am managing quite well with the free version of the other. It times out after five mistakes which then gradually reload, but after five mistakes I reckon my brain is tired so there's no point continuing that day anyway.

The plan for today, before work, really ought to be to tidy DS2's room further but the garden needs attention too and I know the sunshine is good for me so I'll put some sun cream on and do a bit of gardening.

DH had an interesting query for me yesterday: a friend's daughter's friend seems to have developed an allergy to guinea pigs so they may be wanting to rehome theirs, would I be interested? Now I've promised myself to get more pets once the old house is sold but it's still in the process of the sale so we're not quite there yet. I've said I'd definitely be interested but it may depend on time scale.

I know that room is still waiting for attention but the garden is too... :)

On a plus side, the guinea pigs could help nibble the lawn, if they were in a run that you could move around! Might save a job!

I loved having either guineas or rabbits around when I was gardening in the past - someone to talk to and feed selected weeds to! I always thought they did a very efficient job of recycling the lawn!

I never got round to doing the garden the other day as work time came round rather quickly. In fact I've been at work every afternoon but the weekend wasn't as stressful as I'd envisaged and work has also heard that a colleague who's been off sick for some time is about to come back. As it was beginning to feel as though we were falling to pieces, I'm greatly cheered by this news. Mind you, we've also heard that no-one will be appointed from our last set of adverts.

DH has gone to visit his auntie for a couple of days and will be bringing her back here on Wednesday. My couple of days for straightening the house in readiness for her visit are already half over and nothing of it is accomplished! I was at work yesterday by the time DH left, and back at 10pm. Today I had coffee with an old friend, and a good catch-up/discussion which was great use of the time. So much so that I didn't hurry back for an online meeting and will have to read the minutes carefully though I'm told there wasn't much. I had a latish lunch then off to work I went, leaving the place in rather a tip. Oddly, it hasn't sorted itself out in my absence and even my knitting is completely untouched. Where does the time go?!

Tomorrow is the first of two days off though I've an appointment to have bloods done in the afternoon and am meeting a friend for a walk and a takeaway at teatime so housework time will again be limited! I'll have to make a dent in it, even if it's just clearing DS2's bed which has been used as a sorting surface, and bundling everything into DD's room. Auntie is likely to arrive before lunch on Wednesday so I won't have much time then. One of my colleagues helpfully pointed out that I could get up with the sun at 4am to do the tidying. :D

I treated my friend to coffee so that was a 'spend', and bought lots of veg in the hope that if I have them I will eat marvellously for a few days. I need to get fruit and a few odds and ends tomorrow.

    Spending:
    Entertaining £5.90
    Housekeeping £17.44

Tonight I'm thankful for shifts going smoothly when they could have been just the opposite, meeting my friend again, healthy food and long, light evenings.

I have a friend coming round on Thursday so I'm going to try to clean and tidy upstairs today and downstairs tomorrow in the hope that if I pace myself I will actually do it. Socialising will do you way more good than house cleaning....and as for working, well needs must. I hope that you have a good day today.

Thanks @CRANKY40, it's been quite productive so far! Glad to see we are of one mind on the socialising! ;)

I found your diary! I'm gradually catching up. :)

Good luck with your cleaning and tidying, how's it going?
