I cross-posted with you, sorry. Yes, it's on my to-do list, but not for today.

I hope you feel more upbeat by the end of the day. It’s never easy sorting out someone else’s things as I found when I lost my mum, you can’t keep everything.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

My mum found it very difficult to go through her parents house. As it is we have much to go through in the coming months that got saved to suitcases to be gone through later.

Thank you everyone.
My mood lifted a bit during the day though when I sorted out my garden centre vouchers and asked the lady at the till to tell me what was still valid (some just say 'valid for X months after purchase') three of the five had gone completely out of date. I'm rather angry with myself about that because they represent the care and sometimes sacrificial gift-giving of family members. I thought maybe one would have gone OOD but...Anyway I spent the rest of the vouchers and about £8 cash buying compost and a posh trowel, having wanted a wider-bladed one for years.
I had a nice video call with three friends in the evening, we are planning on meeting up for a takeaway and a walk in a few weeks but before that three of us had planned to meet up in someone's summer house, quite a big deal when we haven't had our weekly get-together in person for well over a year - and I realised I'm likely to have to be away on the day we'd arranged, though I haven't dared tell them yet. This house-clearing is taking over, and it won't be finished till the house is sold. However, after that there will still be stuff to sort through, back here.
Today Dh is sorting the loft while it's still cool enough, then we plan to go and have lunch in my favourite cafe, followed by another trip to the clock mender's as the pendulum on the grandfather clock came in two while the mechanism was going back in. Normally the pieces screw together but at some point in the last 200+ years, someone has soldered this one so it needs proper surgery to make it work again.
I'm still faffing round the edges of sorting the stacks of boxes and papers brought from the old house but a little bit of progress can be seen as the photos box and the letters box are gradually getting new items and there's a stack of paper to go to recycling too.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. I forgot to say I redid my grocery shopping trip from the day before yesterday and it mysteriously got £3 more expensive. I did get quite a lot of fruit but not enough to account for that.
Spending
Garden £23 of which £18 vouchers and £8 cash
Housekeeping £18.38
Phone top up £2.50
Things I'm thankful for this morning: DH found a lot of DD's things in the loft and has brought them out for her to collect, thus giving us space where we can put some of my clutter and enable me to work more efficiently (and eventually bring the other boxes down and sort them in a more ordered environment). Another sunny warm day. Both of us having the day off.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

We've had a lovely and stress-busting afternoon. My stuff didn't make it into the loft as DH decided he wants that space available for the time being in order to have access to the rest of DD's boxes for when she's ready for them. She hopes to call tomorrow for at least some of what he's found already - meanwhile it's in a big stack in the hall.
We drove out to where we'd planned to have lunch but what with it being a sunny half term and all, there wasn't a parking space to be found and we spotted what looked like a coach party headed for the cafe, so we drove on and delivered the pendulum to the clock mender then had a very pleasant lunch in the hot sun outside a tiny cafe who were rushed off their feet with a party of half a dozen cyclists, us two and a couple of other people. We had a bit of a wait but I had brought my knitting so I was gainfully employed. It all quietened down by the time we had finished and one of the two staff said he'd not stopped since eight this morning, poor chap.
We popped into the charity shop where I've bought yarn before but they couldn't take cards so I didn't buy anything (just as well), then drove on to spend a pre-booked afternoon making good use of our English Heritage membership. This also involved coffee and cake but entry was free with membership. Not sure what the food all came to: around £20 or a bit more? DH paid.
Things I'm thankful for: May weather finally arriving (a little late), a big drift of Queens Ann's Lace at the end of our garden, swifts enjoying the blue sky and heights of a ruined abbey, the last of the trees coming into bud, outlined against the sky. A few more days and they will be fully dressed for summer.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Another warm day, but not sunny. This evening looked as though rain was coming but it's still dry. I wouldn't be surprised if we get thunder overnight but I had a walk while at work which was nice.
DD came round at lunch time and has loaded up some of her things from the loft but didn't have time to do much as she had a meeting - on her laptop in our lounge, while DH was working from the dining table. (Signs of the times). Nice to see her and have a quick chat, and we are planning to see them at the weekend to take the puppy to the beach. I've warned them that it will be busy so we're going to a less popular area.
DH rang a friend who has had a health scare only to find it's serious and further investigations are going to happen to see what can be done.
Things I'm thankful for tonight: seeing DD, summer weather and flowers (next door's garden looks like a Monet painting), a nice dream last night in which the people moving into the old house rebuilt part of an old shed and whitewashed it while DS2 retrieved various articles he'd found in a chimney (!). The dream meant I woke up with a positive feeling.
