Traditional Bank Holiday weather here today - about 8 degrees, lots of rain, windy! At tea time the sun came out again but I was still cold. When I checked the boiler I was a bit puzzled as the thermostat was showing it as working, but the radiators were cold. Further investigation revealed the plumber had turned the heating setting to zero.
That's now put right.
I've moved a lot of smallish boxes that were neatly stacked in DD's old room so there is room for the bookcase that's been in my parents' hall since before I can remember. We hope to fit it in the hired van tomorrow at the same time as we collect a load of boxes of my sister's stuff that need to go up to the Borders before we turn for home on Wednesday.
I've also tracked down a possible pattern for the lacey yarn, but I don't have all the right needles so £15.21 has gone on various pieces: I must have saved a fortune by inheriting bags of knitting needles but not one of them was circular and this is definitely my go-to type now. However it won't arrive for a few days so I'm still looking for a small project to keep my hands busy while travelling. I daren't take the knitted cat as those needles would be lethal if we stopped suddenly! Might have to take some crochet, I think. Far less risky.
Today I'm thankful for a lazy day, for understanding a video on knitting with DPNs (I've been shying away from that! It looks like the sort of thing where I knock all the stitches off the needles), and for the big reduction in UK Covid deaths. Even one is too many but it's massive progress.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I'm still soooo tired though we got back yesterday. Something like 450 miles all told: we arrived on Tuesday and loaded the van in daylight, just about. Weather was foul earlier in the day so we didn't set off till after lunch to avoid driving a van in high winds. I had a headache most of the time that lifted shortly after setting off from the old house - which can't be entirely co incidental.
We left on Wednesday morning and arrived in Scotland in the middle of the afternoon, having discovered the vehicle doesn't allow for charging phones so we were down to the last shreds of battery power. However, the sunlit, snow-topped heights of the Lake District and Borders were a sight well worth seeing, and my sister's house where we were delivering the boxes, is full of charm and character. We only stayed about an hour but still arrived back too late to attend the church meeting so I sent apologies (what did we do before mobile phones?).
Dinner was fish and chips: who wants to cook after all that driving? We got the van unpacked and the bookcase into its new home (it may not be there over sixty years, as it was in its last space). The lawn has grown a few tubs as I've rescued one of my parents' roses and some chimney pot planters.
Today was supposed to be a day off but I had a text asking me to swap to this afternoon. Turns out I was shift lead! Anyway I have tomorrow off instead.
I've paid off the credit card and ordered a new phone charger and cable, having left my own at the old house.
Tonight I'm thankful for safe journeys, bookcase rescued, beautiful landscapes and my sister's permission to use their house for a holiday as they are abroad.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I'm having a day off! This means spending the morning playing on the computer, but since then I've got the ironing done, washed a jumper that I found at my Mum's old house (was my Dad's, for various reasons I suspect it was demob-wear. If so, it dates to the mid-forties. I need to look for more information) and sorted soe old receipts that had been cluttering up the table. The post arrived, with some photos I'd ordered and the new charger and cables for my phone so there are two spends to declare:
Electronics £16.45
Photos (mostly postage as it's through an app) £8.33
Also - sadly - £3.50 CC charges for not keeping up to date with the payments.Daft of me. I need to look into a new card as that probably wipes out the small gains made in loyalty points.

I've spent the evening wrestling my sewing machine and have ended up with a finished kitchen towel and a sense of accomplishment, though the crocheted edging I made didn't fit and had to be folded round a couple of corners as well as hand sewn in places where I couldn't get the machining straight enough. I think the GB Sewing Bee need have no immediate worry about the competition.
This evening I'm thankful I've managed to complete a project, won a battle with the sewing machine which might even lead to using it more and - which is the big one really - I found I had best control of the treadle in stockinged feet using one toe, and that toe is the one I broke dramatically three years ago when I fell through the loft hatch and landed on it. It's mended so completely that I've not had any issues at all since it healed.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Looking forward to using it! I think a lot of holidays this year may be house swaps, borrowing second homes and the like, which is a good way to get to know other areas or just get a change of scene. Not sure ours will be going on loan though - it needs so much sorting before we could have guests!
That reminds me, Dh's aunty is invited in the summer so I really need to move on with the stuff I've dumped in DS2's old room.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
