I did, OBL - could have spent less on a new phone! However mine is now virtually a new phone and it does everything I want apart from the posh new screen protector being so efficient that the screen is less sensitive than it used to be. I've just added a couple more apps... without worrying that I was going to run out of space. On my old phone I had to delete most of them as it refused to store things on the memory card.

134 paper decisions made this evening - which half empties one box from my parents' house! I've not added them all up but there must be thousands of papers sorted now. Dh took a bag to the charity shop for me too, so that's a few more oddments from the 2 houses hopefully going to new homes - 2 boxes of tights, a nightie, a pair of shoes, 6 tops and a poker board! I also threw out 25 audio cassettes yesterday and forgot to mention them. It's only a couple of dints in the mountain of 'stuff' but they are real dints.

It was nice to get a surprise visit from H and A this evening: we don't see enough of them but of course it's not all that easy. We also heard from DS2 to say he's been awarded a star by his workplace. I had to look it up but it's a nomination for staff who have shown innovation or made an impression, so we're proud of him. :)

DH did the shopping today - hopefully enough so we can avoid going to the shops while we're away, and only go out for countryside walks. Covid levels are rising fast here as well, but the area we are going to is worse than here by quite a way and we hope to be thoroughly unsociable and only talk to people by phone. I'm not looking too closely at the news for now, it's not at its best and all I can do is try to keep myself and those around me as safe as possible and pray for a downturn in infections.

Tonight I'm thankful for seeing some of the family, for a cheerful chat at work, for the empty half of the box of papers (!) and for DS2's good news.

We're setting off soon - back on Tuesday if all goes to plan. I have quite the headache, probably a mixture of tension, lack of sleep and reading too much: I went back to bed to catch another hour this morning but it hasn't entirely fixed it. Good motivator to get this out of the way!

My latest (work mandated) Covid test has come back negative.

The 'free' photos I sent off for have come back and are nice so I'm leaving a few for J and L, who are minding our goldfish for the next few days. It will remind them that they had a Cornish holiday, did the Yorkshire Three Peaks and L ran a marathon this summer. :)

DH has bought a few more groceries ready for our trip to the old house. I have my Kindle and I'm taking some knitting to save my eyes from too many screens. I've also picked another half a jug of blackberries this morning, washed and frozen too.

My 'thankful' list for the day so far: late blackberries and a goldfinch in the garden, falling leaves, blueberries helping the headache, finding an easy knitting pattern to start on a gift while I'm away.

  • Enjoy your few days away at the house. Hopefully the offer goes through okay and someone can make a new home from all the work you have put in to it over the last few years.
Glad you could get the phone repaired.  I might have to enquire about DHs after it developed green lines the other day. He hardly uses it and can't see the point in a new phone so a fix might be an idea.
Well done to DS. Its good that they get noticed for all the hard work they put in.

    Thanks @charlies_tribe and @Onebrokelady . :)

It's been exhausting but I made good inroads into a room that had lots of loose paperwork. Something around 1,400 'paper decisions'! I also chucked out a bag of old bedding, which I hadn't even realised was lurking in a corner. That room is now orderly though still not empty.

We treated ourselves to a long walk each afternoon - a health and sanity saver - and the autumn colours are absolutely gorgeous and getting more so each day. One walk was a bit of an adventure as we found a field had flooded and rather than go potentially miles extra I took off my shoes and socks and waded through! It was only ankle deep and the water was clear so the mud either side of the flood was more of a problem than the water. :D

I did struggle especially at first with headaches that could have been eyestrain/sinus/tension. These came back each afternoon but after the first day they were only short episodes. I'm pretty tired now though so it's good that I have tomorrow off.

We have another good offer on the house! Potential buyer number one wants another look which is booked for Saturday, along with another interested person, then the estate agent will ask them to put in final offers. It's been eye-opening how much interest there's been - over 20 viewings so far. One evening I went to close the curtains and saw a car had swerved towards the estate agent's board and the occupant was evidently reading it on impulse (it's not a good place to stop a car and a very weird angle that wasn't parking and wasn't paused in the line of traffic either - just as well they moved on!)

We had a couple of small spends - tuna and fruit, and a new u bend for the kitchen which we will reclaim from the estate.

I'm thankful for such beautiful autumn colours, visible progress on the house, good offers and a helpful estate agent, a chat to a friend this evening and a day off tomorrow.

I've just caught up with your diary Cherry and the wonderful news that there's been so much interest in the house and you have had some good offers.
Your autumn walks have sounded lovely. 🍂🍁🍂

Thanks @Seasidegal58 , there's been nothing further on the house today but I really needed a rest from it!

I had rather a grumpy morning, all I wanted was to chill so, apart from texting the tree surgeon asking for a definite date for him to do the work,  I did. I bestirred myself enough to put some washing in the machine and was surprised at how mild it is out of doors. It's been almost misty much of the day but the clothes got half dry.

After lunch I popped over to work for the weekly Covid test and learned I've been moved to early shifts over the next few days, meaning I'll have to change my plans for a walk with my friend on Saturday. Out of sheer 'I will have a treat' mood, I wandered round town and picked up a few bits and pieces I was wanting (nothing too indulgent). When I came home I made the Christmas cake: it's got about 20 minutes still to go and smells good. Then dinner, Bake Off and a computer game, so no progress on the things I brought home to sort.

    Spending
Household (replaced a Kilner jar that finally broke the other day) £2.99
Pets  £1.50 (Had a chat with the man who bought the pet shop a couple of years ago: his trade is really suffering as so many things he sells, from goldfish to bird toys, come from the far East. :( )
    Medical £4.25
    Gifts £0.65

Today I'm thankful that my colleague who has been unwell seems more cheerful, that I can see that I'm in a low mood but wasn't far enough gone that I couldn't do things to improve matters (even if it involves most of a packet of butter, far too much sugar and a lot of booze-soaked fruit!) and a lovely sunset. Also that I found out about the change in shift with plenty of notice instead of a phone call in the morning!

Work is still quiet - I spent much of today deep cleaning the laundry as we don't have any clients in. Arrived home shortly before DD turned up to collect her post that's been gathering here, so we had a chat before she had to go back to work. Also heard A and H so half the family is accounted for.

It's been a lazy TV evening which is probably good for me, but I've sorted out a bag of old letters and photos, finding 41 to recycle and a shoe box for the others so at lest they are compacted.

    Nothing spent.

I'm thankful for dealing with something at work that had been bothering me, a restful evening, some positive news that's someone else's business but nonetheless cheering, the prospect of another quiet day at work tomorrow.
