  • Well done on the run 😊I do miss running but don't think I could do it now, I make up for it by walking as fast as I can though 😀
What a shame that the house held in Trust is just being left to rot, I hate to see property being neglected like this especially if it's historically significant 🙁

Thanks OBL, is it any compensation that your knees will be under less stress running?
Yes, it's a shame about the house we 'investigated': a stone building probably two hundred years old, solidly built and well proportioned, right in the centre of the little town. When we stood across the road looking at it I could see a huge old suitcase by one of the middle windows which really invited a story to grow around it. Downstairs DH spotted an antique dining chair behind the grey nets...

Today has been a  day off and for once I got some studying done in a timely way then went out for a run. I did leave this till lunchtime, though, which meant it was rather warm and I only did the first third of the planned distance, and walked back. I've been so tired since. I was up late last night so I hope that's all it is. I even tried to doze off before tea so I'd be okay to chat to my friends later. As it was we had our chat and it woke me up! We are hoping to get together with a couple of other friends who used to be part of the same group, but we are all away at some point in the next few weeks so here's hoping for super weather in October so we can go somewhere with gardens and get a takeaway coffee. Actually I wonder if bringing flasks of soup might become the latest fashion as the Autumn progresses and fewer people will want to sit outside cafes that can't accommodate them indoors.

I haven't spent anything today and I still haven't found yesterday's supermarket receipt, but DH did a bit of grocery shopping. My diet hasn't gone well the last few days: I'm not getting enough exercise to burn off the calories and I'm too hungry at times not to have a bite to eat. Nothing drastic but enough to mean I probably won't lose weight for the second week running. :(

Tonight I'm thankful for a chat with my friends, the possibility of us all meeting up and seeing DD this morning (she called in for some blackberries) and working out that it's she who owns a set of weights that's been lurking in the corner for over a year!

Today I feel a lot more awake, thankfully.

DH's laptop - the one he inherited from his Dad - has dug its heels in and decided not to start so this afternoon we're taking it for repair. DH thinks it's a faulty update but hasn't been able to make progress. He's also got us a piece of wood to make a new clothes prop: the old one was here a quarter of a century ago and is almost totally beyond use.

He was using our original laptop for a job application so I've been out to buy another notebook as (once again) I'm overloaded with CPD courses and I want to keep my notes separate. I found quite a nice one for £1 but have also bought a new pair of pillows, a door mat, a bird feeder and two pairs of gardening gloves - £41.94in total!

A lot of the above are about being winter-ready. I could, admittedly, have bought a much cheaper door mat but we will see a lot of it so it might as well be pretty. The gloves looked to be £6.99 on the shelf but have come out at £9.99 a pair on the receipt so perhaps I need to go back and double-check, but not today. Town was far too busy. They are meant for DH and A - A's will be a stocking filler as he's getting keen on gardening and I know from experience how much I use leather gardening gloves. They cost more but they make life a lot easier if you do heavier work...

I've just double-checked the receipt and have been charged extra for the doormat as well - a £5 discount hasn't been applied - so we're calling back in on the way out to get the laptop repaired.

Ha! My mistake. :D The shop assistant showed me the discounts had been applied but they show at the end of the bill as a lump sum. (Elsewhere when I've seen them itemised separately from the main billing, they've been done individually, this time I saw only one discount). Anyway lesson learned, and I somehow managed to buy a new diary while I was out.

DH's laptop is now with the repair people and it's raining, but we're out to tea with J and L which will be a treat.

    Spending:
    Stationery £2.50
    Household 19.98
    Pets (bird feeder) £12.99
    Presents £7.98

ETA DH bought an umbrella (£4.99) and wood for a clothes' prop (£5.99?)

It's more my hips that hurt  and I kept getting shin splints, I got as far as 7 miles when I was training properly but then when I developed Fibromyalgia it became even more difficult, the physio I used to see at the time I was diagnosed warned me not to try to run again because it would set off a flare up so I stopped completely. I've since found out this isn't true so could have probably carried on,maybe one day I will give it another go 😊

What a shame about the running, OBL. I suppose the difficulty is knowing when not to push yourself but that's always a tricky call. I felt a bit wrong changing my run to a walk the other day but with hindsight it was the right thing to do as I was so tired later.

I've just done another sleep-in shift at work and was shift lead again beforehand. It was rather full-on as we had a new lot of medication to sort through but other staff helped. I'm back in this afternoon for a short shift but have the weekend off and our friends are coming for three nights. I'm looking forward to this: we have booked to go out tomorrow and will have lunch out too. It's quite like old days!

I mysteriously pulled a muscle in my back yesterday. I don't remember doing it at all but it was uncomfortable all night and I'm now dosed up with Ibuprofen. I'm hoping that keeping active will stop it seizing up.

I think the only other news is that I've just proofread another job application for DH, and he started some voluntary work at a charity shop yesterday, which he enjoyed. That means he has three voluntary jobs but all very much part time. The paid job he's going for is also only a few hours but would probably suit him. Of course job competition is stiff but them as doesn't ask doesn't get. :)

Today I'm thankful for having made what I feel was a reasonable job of last night's shift, potential changes at work which could be good, and the prospect of a weekend with our friends. I've also realised that although I will miss the colleague who leaves today, there are likely to be more shifts available in consequence, at least till the post is filled.

I'm going to update my signature: it's still as I left it late last year!

    MFW #30 Overpaid by £4,100.58/£3000 in 2018
    Overpaid by £3,259.33/2,880.00 to 29/11/19
    Decluttered in 2019: 2,041/2,019 as of 21/10/19

The mortgage is paid off and I haven't organised a savings plan to replace it. Small-scale decluttering continues...

The new signature needs to include my 'Fashion on the Ration' coupons but that's all at the moment. I got my badge for seven years on the Forum the other day but I never seem to have been awarded a mortgage-free one. Wonder what happened to that?

Fingers crossed for DH's job application. I hope the changes at work are to your advantage, picking up some extra shifts would all add to the coffers. Well done on paying off your mortgage last year, I don't know how it works with the badges I'm afraid.

I haven't worked out the badges either but I don't expect it makes a huge difference.

This morning all I got done was a Skype to work while cleaning the fish tank. Not a clever idea but the tank needed to be done and I can claim for the work time. I think the changes at work should be positive in the long run, but nothing's actually happened yet and this morning's meeting was partly about other changes as we edge back towards our usual client group.

My bike has been repaired. It came to £36.31. DH's laptop, alas, is beyond help but they will probably be able to rescue the photos his Dad had put on there, which is the main thing. After that we'll be thinking about a new laptop as not only is the one I usually use also ageing but having two gets to be a habit.

Now I need to tidy up in the kitchen and prepare some food to take to work. Have a good afternoon, all.

You should be able to get a laptop for a good price as everyone seems to be wanting notebooks and tablets now. I need to replace my iPad at some stage because it’s quite old and not upgrading to the latest IOS any more. I’ve had it for a few years so can’t complain. Good that the photos can probably be rescued, that’s the trouble with everything being digital now.
