How can I claim PPI if I no longer have the details?

Hello all!
I have been putting this off for years but now that the final deadline has been published, I must face it. When the PPI scandal broke I had just paid off 8 credit cards in full about 6 months earlier, cut them all up and destroyed them...and shredded about 5 years of paper bills. My problem is I do not even have a list of which cards I had, account numbers or indeed any details. Yet know I was sold PPI on all of them and diligently paid it monthly - even though I was self employed and it was useless!
So dear forum....do I stand any chance of claiming any of this or should I just write it all off?
I would be glad of any advice, especially from anyone who was /is in the same situation.
Thank you!

Why do you think it was useless? The self employed were not routinely excluded.0

As I understand it, any claim I would have made were I unable to work would have been rendered invalid if I were self employed.
If you are saying I am incorrect, then perhaps there is no point my claiming missold PPI?0 -
It is incorrect that the self employed were never covered.
You need to look at the PPI you were sold and then determine whether you have reasons for complaint,0 -
Well as I pointed out, I cannot 'look at' details as I no longer have any of the cards, statements or docuentation - hence my original question here.0

You'll need to contact any lenders you feel you had PPI with and ask if you did.
Checking your credit files may provide some clues.0 -
Your last 6 years will be on the credit agency websites (CallCredit / Noddle; Equifax / ClearScore; and Experian) beyond that you will need to remember
You can ring or write to each bank and ask them if you had an account and if you had PPI, if they do not have easy access to the records you will have to risk a £10 DSAR (request for all the data they hold on you) and see if that digs anything up
You could then also find out from say the FOS whether the PPI policies the banks sold would cover the self-employed or if they were considered unsuitable
After that decide if a complaint is justifiedSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
