unable to leave NPower
Have been trying to switch from NPower since September - for a better deal and to escape their chaotic accounts. The stumbling block is that we have a supply to our house and another to a Studio in a barn - each with its own meter. We have been told that only NPower can 'unrelate' the meters so that we can change suppliers. Yesterday, NPower finally agreed to separate the accounts, calling one 'Studio' and the other 'House'. Today it's a different story - we need to get a new address for the Studio for the 'unrelation' to take place, which we really do not want to do. NPower wrongly say we have to contact Royal Mail for this - wrong, you contact your local council for a new address. Has anyone else come across a similar problem, or can suggest a solution, please?
I filled out an NPower customer satisfaction survey today and was amused to see that it was powered by 'Rant and Rave'!

I think if you contact the council and ask them for a new address you will face further, more expensive problems - a new address means a new council tax liability for the new address which you would have to pay.
Npower should tell you why they cannot unrelated the meters but you should raise a formal complaint about their failings on the issue.
Have you also considered having the secondary meter removed and both buildings being supplied by a single meter - once this has been done you could have your own private meter installed as a sub meter recording usage by the barn.0 -
Thank you for your suggestions - the council tax was a main concern, playing it would negate any savings on Electrical bills. A single meter might be an option - having 2 makes it easier to choose a tariff that takes into account the very different needs of each building - the Barn Studio uses Night Storage heaters on economy 7 and the house uses much more daytime power.
