Google Maps / Earth satellite image date?

Does anybody know if there is an easy way to establish the approximate date of a particular satellite image in Google Maps or Earth?
Obviously if you know the area well you may be able to spot something that was either put up or taken down. Like that I can tell that my own address area is less than a year old. However the image of the street that interests me is at least four years old but it would be very useful to have a more accurate date than that. It is also noticeable that it is a lower quality image than my own area.
Unless I am missing the obvious I can't see any date information. Google street view on the other hand seems much easier to date.
Also, does anybody know how often the UK satellite images are updated?
Thanks.

Google claim you can do it by switching from Google Earth to Street View to get the date that RumRat mentions, but (pardon my French) that's b0llux! The Google Earth images of my house clearly show my new car (bought in November 2015) and my neighbour's new car, bought a month or two after mine, but the Street View image shows their old car and is dated 8/2012.
If you want to ridicule what they say, this is the link.

Having said that, looking at the comments they do in fact reveal how to date the satellite image, it's actually shown at the bottom of the page, although you have to get rid of any clutter in order to be able to see it - the image of my house was taken on 4/20/2016, which makes sense.0 -

Thanks, my experience is very much like yours!
For the address in question I have no reason to doubt the the date on the street view. However I know for certain that the satellite image pre-dates that. What I want to establish is by how many years.
It is also much poorer quality than my own area which would also suggest it is earlier technology.0 -
The date is only available when looking at the satellite images on Google Earth, it is not available through Google Maps.
There is no time stamp, only the date.

Interesting thanks. That has answered one question but raised a couple more about the dates of the images in question!0 -

It looks like you may have quoted me before I edited my post to point out that in fact the date is included on the Google Earth image, and that what is showing for my address appeears to be correct.0 -
If you install Google Earth Pro, you'll see the dates (I thought this was also the case in Google Maps), but further, you can also 'go back in time' and see previously dated images. Well worth installing for the grand sum of £0.0
