Very catalogue service guarantee now auto renewing?

Hey all
So I regularly shop with Very, I find the idea of buying large things on interest free very convenient
For larger/more expensive items, I sometimes opt for their insurance cover, which can be quite cheap compared to the items I'm buying
But the other day I had a letter through about a set of headphones I bought sometime ago (Think it was a pair of Beats HD Bluetooth ones) saying that my replacement guarantee was running out and it would auto renew for another year and I'd be billed £79ish for it, which would be added to my very account.
I figured I'd missed some clause in the insurance document that it would auto renew, so I dug out the insurance stuff and it doesn't mention any auto renewing charge.
It looks like they've added the auto renew bit to their service guarantee on the website - http://common.very.co.uk/assets/static/service-guarantee.pdf
Are they allowed to just slap an auto renew on existing products like that? I must have about 30 extended guarantees for items I've bought for myself and for gifts, if I have to call up for each item and cancel it, it's going to be a nightmare.

£79 for one year's extended guarantee on a set of headphones??I must have about 30 extended guarantees for items I've bought for myself and for gifts, if I have to call up for each item and cancel it, it's going to be a nightmare.
How much would it cost to replace them if they did fail?
For how many years have you been paying this?
Call up and cancel all thirty of your extended guarantees now.
OK, it may be a bit of a nightmare doing that, but it's all over and done with.
Having done that, add up the total annual cost of these extended guarantees, and be amazed at the amount of money you have just saved.
Have a read of MSE's Extended Warranties article.0 -
An older version of that document included:I figured I'd missed some clause in the insurance document that it would auto renew, so I dug out the insurance stuff and it doesn't mention any auto renewing charge.

The bit I have emboldened makes it look like their extended guarantee always did auto-renew, but perhaps wasn't as clearly shown before. Here’s how it works; The Service Guarantee starts when the manufacturer’s guarantee runs out. All you need to do is choose how long you want the agreement for (up to 5 years – inclusive of manufacturer’s guarantee). You will be informed of the cost of Service Guarantee for the initial period. Then, if extendable, you will receive a letter before the end date to let you know the cost of maintaining your agreement for a further period. If, at that stage, you are a credit account holder, the cost will be charged to your credit account (subject to credit account status) unless you notify that you don’t want to continue with your agreement - the choice is yours.0
