New York...3 or 6 nights?

Hi
I have never been to New York and I am thinking of going there in early November this year. As this will probably be my one and only time there I am enquiring if 3 nights would be long enough to take in most of the main sights and sounds of the city or would I need longer. The only other option I have with Norwegian Air (from my local airport) is a 6 night stay but as that is much more expensive (hotel costs mostly). I am not sure if it is worth the extra outlay. I will be travelling on my own and am not interested in doing a lot of shopping. Mostly I just want to see the sights and local attractions.
Thanks

Really depends on flight timings - 3 nights could easily just be 2 days with late arrival on day 1 and early departure on day 40 -
there is loads and loads to do, i would reccomened writing down what you wanna do-things you wanna see, and usuing google maps(or another app?) so if you can tick things off which are pretty close to one another.
for example, top of the rock is close to central park and times sqaure(central park is super huge so im going from 7th avenue here) i
wall street is close to the 911 memorial(i think thats what its called) and is super clsoe to the brooklyn bridge
also depending on your flight times you may have time on the day you arrive-leave
example from our lcoal airport to newark we d arrival in new york about midday (ny time) time you get through immragration get our bags things going well you are looking at about 1pm
on our flight back to the uk our flight was at 8pm so we had the whole day pretty much to do some more sightseeing
hope this helps0 -
We've been a few times, always between 6 and 8 nights, and would think that 3 nights would be very pushed to do other than whistlestop tours of the must-sees, especially as that just gives 2 full days.0

And here's me wondering if two weeks would be enough the next time I go back, or could I maybe stretch it to three!
3 days will maybe just let you do the most major tourist sights but NY has a huge amount to offer that you cannot do in a hurry.
If costs are a big issue, looking for a hotel on a Metro out of Manhattan might help stretch things.
Lots of info in the NY sticky here that will also help you.0 -

Ask in the New York Thread
IMHO go for 6, 3 is too short.
I've been 5 times for 3\4 days and just about covered it.0 -
Loved NY visited on Titan Tour for two nights. Wished we had just spent our time in NY, three nights certainly not long enough.0

3 nights. 1st day red bus tour to Staten Island (which is weir as you will find your family there on the monument); 2 day empire state (3 hour security queue) & meuseum 3rd shopping kays macys etc. (take an extra fold up bag to put all your new cothes in and don't come home in any clothes you brought in the UK).Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

What do you do in New York for so long? I've been quite a few times, generally for 2 or 3 nights and it always feels like enough, and tend to do the same things every visit.Save £12k in 2019 #360
