Looking to buy a new car, shortlist
BMW X1, Renault Kadjar & Hyundai Tucson
Anyone with any advice opinions on these models
Average mileage will be 25K so good fuel efficiency is a factor
TIA
If fuel efficiency is a factor why are you looking at models which are inherently inefficient due to their height and barge like proportions?0 -
Buy the Hyundai. It'll be better value than the BMW, more reliable than the Renault, and with a better warranty than either.
But then, as suggested above, buying one of these things doesn't square with 'fuel efficiency being a factor'.0 -
I've got a hyundai IX35 which is the Tucson's predecessor. It's a nice car for the money but I've had several niggles with it. The worst being having to have the clutch and half the gearbox replaced at 55,000 miles and 2 year old. The dealership tried to charge me for this as wear and tear so I ended up having to get Hyundai UK involved who were very helpful and provided me with a hire car for a month whilst the car was repaired. They have also agreed to pay for my 60,000 mile service.
The one thing I have noticed on long journeys is that the seat base isn't long enough to support my knees making long trips a bit uncomfortable. I'm 6' 4" though so won't be a problem for everyone.0 -
The BMW is overpriced for what you get, and not that good. At the mileage you're doing any car will be worthless in 4 years so you'll lose a lot of money.
Another upvote for the Tucson, it's pretty good value, pretty decent. Fuel economy isn't that great (I get about 30mpg with it's predecessor). But then if you're wanting fuel economy (and presumably space) I'd be looking at estates rather than crossovers. I only got one for the height because it's good for the baby seat, but I do <5k miles a year and don't care about mpg.0 -
have a look at the new peugeot 3008 too. Early reviews seem quite good0

Go take a look at the new Kia Niro, hybrid petrol (not plug-in) SUV style about the same size as the ones your looking at, loaded with extras at all level, very refined, good price. Quite a few reviewers have got 60+ mpg from it in mixed use.0
