ppi help to claim for deceased

Options
Hi there, sorry to put up another ppi question but I don't know who to ask.my father died 14 years ago and my elderly mum has asked me if it is possible to find out if we can still claim for ppi on my dad's accounts.he had numerous accounts/mortgage with Lloyds bank.I'm not sure if there is a time frame they go back too but I claimed from them for account going back 15-20 years and got a payout.this was 5 years ago and I have lost all correspondence I had regarding it.my mother hasn't got account numbers so I know its probably a lost cause.if there is any help you can give me I would be extremely grateful as I don't know where to start.thanks

The executor of the estate can make a complaint in his name. However, there are limitations. The reasons have to be factual. Mainly, that they cannot state what may or may not have been said or that he didnt know he had it.

I didn't know if I had ppi until I asked them, so is this different when asking about a deceased persons accounts?

Can you evidence that your father didn't know he had PPI?

    It's totally different.

You complained about your own accounts, now you are proposing complaining about someone else's.

You need to give factual and (preferably) verifiable complaint reasons. Your father is no longer around to provide any testimony about the circumstances of the sale.

You should also be aware that, 14 years on, the bank may no longer have any record of your late father's finances.

He was self employed.isn't this one of the reasons they should not sell/add ppi to accounts?

What you mean is that you alleged that you didnt know that you had it. You are in a position to make that allegation. However, the executor of the estate is not in the position to make that allegation as they were not present at the point of sale.

Most PPI covers self employed. It is only a significant minority that does not (or not well enough). So, was his plan one that covered the SE?

This effectively means you had forgotten about the insurance. The Bank will have refunded you for entirely different reasons.

Perhaps, but only if the PPI would not have paid out to self-employed people. You need to check this prior to any complaint.

    Why are you lost?

    (1) Check if the Bank still have records of your father's finances.

    (2) If records exist, check if the PPI would have paid out despite your father being self employed.

    (3) If the PPI would not have paid out then complain on that basis.

If the PPI covered self employment then look for another factual complaint reason which does not require testimony from your late father.
