I had a carpet fitted on my stairs I picked a flowered pattern that all went in the same direction upwards pattern, they fitted it with the flowers running down, I phoned the shop and he said that its fitted right I told him that the sample book show the flowers all running up so that's the way I expected it go. and if they knew that the pattern is the opposite way from the grain that they should have told me or had a sign on the carpet saying that it would run the opposite way if put on stairs they have also not matched the pattern on my steps. Everybody knows flowers grow upwards so why would anyone want a carpet with them going down. He said that he would swap 2 of my steps and that' s all. even though their is more steps unmatched. He was very arsie on the phone and told me that is the end of the matter. I am very unhappy with the service and it is a well known company.

So we now have three threads on this.
OP, I couldn't spot the question in your original post.
Do you have a question?0 -
The flowers go down as the carpet was fitted n the winter.
However, in a few weeks the pattern will reverse itself and they will start coming up as spring arrives.0 -
Flowers grow upwards in soil, on carpet they grown down.0

Just because the flowers grow upwards it doesn't mean everyone who has a flower carpet has them going upwards, Im sure there's people out there with the carpet as you have it laid.0 -
Quite an apt username the OP has.0

To be fair I had some flower wallpaper from Wilko a few years ago, put it on the bottom half of the dado rail and admired my handy work. OH says 'but the flowers grow down on that pattern' and he was right. I'd got the roll the right way as well.
Annoyed the bejesus out of me for ages and in the end I painted over the lot.
I can see where OP is coming from, wouldn't bother some but would drive others batty.0 -
Regardless of gage pattern the pile of the carpet MUST always run down the stairs. So by the sounds of it the carpet has been fitted correctly (excluding pattern match, that's a separate issue) just not to your expectations.
Just to double check it has been fitted correctly, rub the carpet very lightly you should feel your hand slide when rubbing in the direction of the stairs and feel resistance when rubbing away from the stairs.0
