Which I have to say falls below your usual high standards bowlhead

Maybe you weren't following the thread.

Economic wants to make sure that his money is with a large, financially strong and reputable company and not an unstable company or bookmaker.

    Economic: what about IG

    Ed: primarily spread bet outfit

Economic: yeah but they do stock dealing/ISA etc are they safe

Malthusian: probably as safe as anyone. However I would expect a bookmaker to be at a higher risk of going bust than a well-established investment platform. There are enough very large and well-established stockbrokers out there that I don't see the need to spread risk by putting your money with a bookmaker.

Economic: TD (where my investments are) is being taken over by interactive investor (II). II are also a spread betting outfit, so do you think i should just move away now

Bowlhead: you're mistaken - iii aren't a spreadbetting outfit. I see no need to move

Economic: III do provide spreadbetting, CFD etc services...

Malthusian: But III are a stockbroker not a bookmaker don't worry about it, I'm not moving either.

Bowlhead: just because iii offer some spreadbet and CFD services via an affiliate or parter doesn't make them a spread betting outfit. TD do that too, and have done for years. Here are the details. So, the thought in your head which is a fear that "my trusty stockbroker is being taken over by a spreadbet shop" is unfounded

GlenClark: hey where's that quote from

Bowlhead: economic is concerned his well established broker is being taken over. He thinks the company taking it over is a spreadbet outfit. Malthusian and I told him they weren't, they are basically a broker/platform. Economic said but they also provide spreadbet and cfd service. I told him so do TD, as an add on service via affiliates, but that does not make it a spreadbet outfit, so his fear that his trusty stockbroker is being taken over by a spreadbet shop is unfounded

GlenClark: this falls short of your standards bowlhead. You can't paraphrase someone's concerns like that, you must use their exact words.

Bowlhead: I generally get by ok thanks but here is a precis of what we are talking about. As you can see - Economic had an unfounded concern about his broker/platform being acquired by a group who was a spread bet outfit - but really there is no cause for concern that TD now has a different financial backer, the new financial backer is not a gambling house, spread bet outfit, spread bet shop, whatever you want to call it. They are primarily a broker/platform which has sought further market share by acquiring a well established and stable broking/platform business with large customer base, such as TD Direct UK.

I never fell out with you. :) Your posts are normally of the highest quality thats why I felt it worth pointing out when they fell slightly below your usual high standard by putting something in quotatation marks without using the same words. Same as I might point out an error in a high quality newspaper, but wouldn't bother if it was in the gutter press. :)
