Garage rip off

Hi Bil recently lost the chip out of the key for his P reg Mondeo he contacted local garage who said they would look at it. When Bil went back he was told the car had been taken to the main dealer who could not fix it the car was useless and handed him a bill for £200 saying he'd paid the main dealer £120. I told him to ask for the main dealer receipt and he was told it was a "back door job" he said he wouldn't pay for a back door job and contacted the same main dealer who said they could analyse the car create 2 new keys at a cost of £160. Cowboy mechanic now wants £400 "for his trouble" and won't return car. What can Bil do? Thanks

yup definatly,especially as he's talking of non VAT jobs.
did the dealer confirm they had worked on your car?

Thanks for your replies the car is currently back with main dealer don't know details yet will let you know

P reg mondeo is only worht about 200 quid anyway.
However, most places that cut keys can chip up Ford stuff.

h'actually, P reg Mondeo should still be on the "red key" system...?! So if he's got that, then he should be ok...
