Stacking washer dryer

Dunno if this would work ... but how about building a shelf for the dryer, above the washer ? Sturdy battens on all 3 walls, screwed in with decent sized screws. A chunk of MDF or ply, maybe a couple of cross-braces, job's a good-un, and very little cost. I wouldn't consider putting a washing machine up there, but a dryer is a lot lighter than a washer.0

The advantage of the shelf is you can move the washer without moving the dryer.
Could also build in a pull out to hold the basket.0 -
Planning on sticking the ironing board in the gap down the side so couldn't put a shelf across0

We've got one of the stacking kits and it's well worth it - the bit that goes between the washer and dryer has lips that stop the dryer walking off the top of the dryer and the pull out shelf is brilliant for a washing basket or folding washing straight out of the dryer - invaluable especailly if they're under the stairs!
I'd also recommend the rubber feet for under the washer - it makes it a lot quieter and stops the whole house shaking when on a fast spin!0 -

Could you also get a sturdy/solid table that fits over the washer that you can sit the dryer on top of? Similar to a butchers block-type table. Either that or a worktop with sufficient support!0 -

Ooooo, hadn't thought of this. Might have a look round for an appropriately sized table.0 -
Our drier is on top of the washer. We just stacked it on top. It's been on there about 10 years and has never moved. The washing machine does have a sort of lip around the top, so whether that helps I don't know.
We did put one of these underneath the WM a while ago as it was quite noisy on spin despite being a new machine. It's been much quieter since.

Have decided to go with just stacking dryer directly on top of washer. Put washer on cycle with fast spin (1400) and the dryer has only moved slightly (1cm maybe) and was easily moved back into place.
Thanks for all the suggestions.0 -
As it is in a cupboard there would be some fairly simple DIY options to stop it moving as you don't need matching white plastic stacking kit.
A couple of ratchet straps £5.
there will be suitable screw holes at the back to fix a bracket or two.0
