    And your point is ???

Why did you have to pay it in full because it's a cash back card ?

You started at £2k, so you are in a very different position to the OP

How long did it take to get to £12k ?

Peaceful Waters....I'm sorry I've not replied to your post, I'm still sniggering like Muttely at you buying a Vauxhall......
    It was for the ex-wife.

£2,500 off a £7,000 car that got her out of my sight was a great deal.

I have two credit cards, one with a limit so pathetic it's hardly worth having (£100) and another with a slightly better but still not great limit (£300) I have asked for the £100 limit one to be raised to the level of my other one, as I'm sick and tired of clearing the card then having to make another payment before the next payment is due and I have told the card provider this. They just helpfully said me doing that isn't a problem! I'm going to leave it until a years anniversary of the card opening (it's six months now and I'm told they look at it at 6 months) but if still no increase I will close the card. My Aqua card (£300) is also at the stage this month where they might entertain a credit limit increase (used to the limit and cleared in full every month) so if Aqua up my limit by more than £100 I might just close the pathetic CashPlus one anyway.

The question of how to effectively use these very low limit cards is a difficult one. When I got my first Access card I was also given a £250 limit, but that was in 1979 unquote

That takes me back. I had my first credit card in 1972 also under the Access brand (Lloyds) and the credit limit was £150. Then in 1975 I asked for an increased only to be told they did not think I was credit worthy.

40+ years on I have an Avios credit card with Lloyds and the credit limit is £15,000.
  • I had a similar experience with capital one. I had a card with a relative low limit compared to salary and after 2 years they refused to increase my limit. I paid it off each month and never exceeded 50% of the limit.

The good thing is that after a couple of years of good financial planning you can get a decent card with a reasonable rate. I have just been accepted for a MBNA card that is 4.9% for five years.

Bad credit cards do help but don't rely on them.
