Phone Contract Credit Agreement

Hello all,
I've had a bit of a problem today while trying to arrange to get a phone from O2 on contract, initially the plan was to pay for the device monthly and while running through the checkout process my credit history was checked and the check passed. However, before confirming the order the web page crashed and the order was cancelled so I had to run through the process again including a second credit check, this check however stated that my history was not good enough and that I had to pay for the device upfront which is something I cannot afford to do.
Obviously the first time round my credit history was good enough so in theory I should not have been rejected the second time, I'm 18 so I only really know the basics about credit scores. Is there any way I can fix the error and get the device on credit anyway as the crash was not my fault?

Sorry I should have mentioned that I did contact O2 on the matter and after being passed from person to person on the phone for about two hours the general message was that it was not their fault, they had no record of the original check and that I had no option but to pay upfront.0

Just to point it out credit scores are only seen by you , lenders dont care about it as they cant see it.0
