Country Pub recommendation

Options
Hi All,

I’m looking for a recommendation and feel someone on here will know the perfect place!

It’s my husband’s birthday in a couple of weeks and I’d like to take him out to a traditional pub for lunch. I’m looking for somewhere that is dog friendly and has good countryside views. My husband recently had surgery on his knee and can't get about much but is an out-doorsy person so really missing the countryside.

I live in Northamptonshire so maybe Derbyshire, Leicestershire or Warwickshire though I’m open to suggestions.

Many thanks in advance –I’m currently searching the internet too!

A personal favourite of mine is The Saxon Mill at Guy's Cliffe, and you can dine outside there so no worries about taking your dog. The views at the rear of the place are stunning.

I haven't yet been myself but this place at Somerby, between Melton Mowbray and Oakham has been recommended to me:

Not sure it has views from the pub itself but it would be a very rural drive to get there.

ETA: Not sure about dogs; you'd have to check. Not mentioned on website, but they do have a resident cat. Not sure whether that would suggest they like animals in general so all welcome, or the cat is so settled as no dogs are allowed ....!

Nearby is the Burroughs Hill Country Park with superb views from the Iron Age hill fort. Even if your husband can't manage this now, worth doing it as a 'recky' for a future trip, and you might find good views from the car park anyway...? Worth checking out as it's so close to Somerby.

Also well placed for a drive round Rutland Water. Several places to park for fresh air and wide open views. Could he manage a boat trip, if you're lucky with the weather? But only run weekends in March and April; daily from May.
